They decided to leave England and move to Holland to concentrate all there efforts into making records and touring in Europe and during the next six or so years, they recorded several albums and had countless hit singles including a cover of Cilla Black’s classic, ‘You’re My World’. In 1986, Guys 'n' Dolls disbanded and Julie and Dominic decided to go it alone as a duo.
1988 proved to be the defining year when Grant and Forsyth made their first mark on the charts with a hit recording of the Walker Brother's classic, ‘The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore’ and The Ronettes ‘Be My Baby’. Julie also found success as a songwriter, writing a song called ‘Go’ which came second in the Eurovision Song Contest, losing out by one point to the Swiss entry, sung by the then unknown, Celine Dion.
1990 was the turning point. The first album, 'Country Love Songs' went platinum in Holland in 1990 and this huge success was followed by a string of ‘Country Love Songs’ albums all of which earned gold and platinum award status. To date, Julie and Dominic have sold over 3 million albums in Holland alone making them the most successful husband and wife team in Europe!
In 2004, the duo released a comprehensive 3CD retrospective entitled, The Platinum Country Collection and their first commercial DVD release. 2005 saw the release of their latest album entitled, Most Beautiful Country Love Songs featuring a specially chosen selection of songs that were big hits in Holland.
Last Christmas
Grant & Forsyth Lyrics

But the very next day, you gave it away
This year, to save me from tears
I'll give it to someone special
Last Christmas, I gave you my heart
But the very next day, you gave it away
This year, to save me from tears
Once bitten and twice shy
I keep my distance but you still catch my eye
Tell me baby do you recognize me?
Well it's been a year, it doesn't surprise me
I wrapped it up and sent it
With a note saying "I Love You" I meant it
Now I know what a fool I've been
But if you kissed me now I know you'd fool me again
Last Christmas, I gave you my heart
But the very next day, you gave it away
This year, to save me from tears
I'll give it to someone special (special)
Last Christmas, I gave you my heart
But the very next day, you gave it away
This year, to save me from tears
I'll give it to someone special (special)
A face on a lover with a fire in his heart
A man undercover but you tore him apart
Maybe next year,
I'll give it to someone, I'll give it to someone special
Special, someone, someone
I'll give it to someone, I'll give it to someone special
Who'll give me something in return
I'll give it to someone, hold my heart and watch it burn
I'll give it to someone, I'll give it to someone special
I thought you were here to stay
How can love be for a day?
I thought you were someone special, gave you my heart
I'll give it to someone, I'll give it to someone
Last Christmas I gave you my heart
You gave it away
I'll give it to someone, I'll give it to someone
The song "Last Christmas" by Grant & Forsyth is a classic holiday track that reflects on the painful experience of a past romantic relationship that ended abruptly and unceremoniously. The song speaks of the love the singer gave away to his lover last Christmas, only to be left heartbroken when the lover gave it away to someone else the very next day. The singer, however, is not willing to remain in that pain and is looking to move on by giving his heart to someone special this Christmas, a strategy to protect himself from tears that would accompany another heartbreak. He acknowledges that he has been foolish, and that he may be vulnerable to being fooled again, but he remains hopeful that love will find him again with someone special.
The lyrics "Once bitten, twice shy" highlights the fear of being hurt again after experiencing heartbreak, creating the wariness that makes it difficult to trust in a new romantic bond. The singer is still attracted to his former lover and wonders if they will recognize him when they meet again. The lyrics of the song are a heart-wrenching mix of sadness, vulnerability, and hopefulness.
In conclusion, the song speaks of the need for closure and of the hope for a brand new love. It reflects the bittersweet moments of joy and sadness that often come with the holiday season, with the lyrics – "I'll give it to someone, someone special" – registering a note of optimism that love will find its way back and that a new romance could be around the corner.
