Grapefruit Sound Lab Lyrics

Well step right up and let's begin
With a new twist on an old friend
Ring around the world we're in,
Pocket full of nothing
Ashes, ashes, we all will burn

Overall Meaning

The opening lyrics of Grapefruit Sound Lab's song Part One introduce us to a world weary of the monotony of daily existence. The singer invites us to join in with an open mind as they bring a new perspective to an old tale. The next line "Ring around the world we're in, Pocket full of nothing" creates a vivid image of the unending cycle of work and consumption we find ourselves in, where we are busy but our pockets are empty. The final line "Ashes, ashes, we all will burn" is a dark reminder of our mortality and the inevitability of death.

Well step right up and let's begin
Let's start this journey

With a new twist on an old friend
Taking a new approach to something familiar

Ring around the world we're in
Encircling our planet

Pocket full of nothing
Having nothing of value

Ashes, ashes, we all will burn
Reminding us of our mortality and eventual death.
