1. Gratitude is a rock band from San Francisco, California. They were formed in 2003 by former onelinedrawing and Far alum Jonah Matranga and guitarist Mark Weinberg (originally of the band Crumb). Other members included guitarist Jeremy Tappero and bassist Bob Lindsey. Drummer David Jarnstrom joined the band before the release of their self-titled debut album (session musicians fulfilled the drum role during the recording of the album). Atlantic Records released Gratitude on March 8, 2005. The tracks Drive Away and This Is The Part, were released as singles and received significant radio play both in the US and the UK. Gratitude's first tour for the album was a North American tour supporting Jimmy Eat World (whom the band has often been compared to), and they were also on the bill for the 2005 Warped Tour.
The band faced many difficulties after their album's release - the commercial response was somewhat poor, and Weinberg left the band in June for personal reasons, thus forcing Gratitude to continue touring as a four-piece. Many show cancellations throughout the second half of 2005 and rumours of the band being dropped by Atlantic put the future of the band at stake. Eventually Gratitude released a statement on November 25 claiming that they had in fact decided to split after playing one final show at the Ascot Room in Minneapolis two days earlier.
The members of Gratitude have now gone onto to various things, with frontman Jonah Matranga continuing with his solo work and the recently-reformed band Far. Members, Jeremy Tappero & David Jarnstrom have returned to their other band, Minneapolis rockers, Attention:.
2. Gratitude is also the name of a up and coming Hardcore/Progressive band from Kingston-Upon-Hull in the UK.

Gratitude Lyrics

Do you think of death?
Do you make a sound?
Or do you hold your breath?
But tonight let's celebrate it
Love or hate it, it's ours
Tonight, let's overrate it
Tonight
The places we don't know
Someone makes our clothes
Someone's counting sins
It gets under my skin
But tonight let's celebrate it
Love or hate it, it's ours
Tonight, let's overrate it
Yeah we really made it this far
Tonight
Oh tonight let's celebrate it
Love or hate it, it's ours
Tonight, let's overrate it
We really made it this far
Oh tonight,
We really made it this far
This far, this far
Yeah we really made it this far
Tonight
In Gratitude's song "Another Division St," the lyrics explore the idea of mortality and our reactions to it. The opening lines "When the lights go out, do you think of death?" suggest a sense of anxiety or fear associated with death. The following lines "Do you make a sound? Or do you hold your breath?" amplify this sense of unease and uncertainty. However, the chorus of the song shifts the focus to celebrating life, despite its challenges and uncertainties. The lyrics "But tonight let's celebrate it, love or hate it, it's ours" suggest a sense of ownership over our experiences, whether positive or negative. The repetition of the phrase "We really made it this far" emphasizes a sense of accomplishment and resilience, even in the face of difficulties.
The lyrics also touch on the idea of the interconnectedness of our lives. The lines "The places we don't know, someone makes our clothes, someone's counting sins, it gets under my skin" hint at a sense of discomfort or guilt surrounding the idea that our actions and choices may contribute to negative consequences for others. However, the focus remains on the celebration of life, rather than dwelling on these negative aspects. The repetition of the chorus suggests a sense of unity and shared experience, as we all navigate the challenges of life and mortality.

When the lights go out
When everything around us falls silent and dark
Do you think of death?
Do you contemplate the end of everything in that darkness?
Do you make a sound?
Do you scream out to break the silence, or stay quiet?
Or do you hold your breath?
Do you suffer silently, waiting for the light to return?
But tonight let's celebrate it
Despite our fears and doubts, let's rejoice
Love or hate it, it's ours
For better or for worse, this moment belongs to us
Tonight let's overrate it
Let's make this night more important than it really is
We really made it this far
Despite all the challenges, we've come a long way
The places we don't know
The mysterious and distant corners of the world
Someone makes our clothes
People we'll never meet, who create the fabric of our lives
Someone's counting sins
People are keeping track of our mistakes and misdeeds
It gets under my skin
It bothers and irritates me
Oh tonight let's celebrate it
Again, let's take joy in the moment
Yeah we really made it this far
We made it through all the struggles and hardships
This far, this far
We've come a long way
Tonight
In this moment
