"This song is about feeling like everyday life is a constant David vs. Goliath scene," drummer Axel Sjöberg told Billboard. "You look around, get pissed off, and want to 'stick it to the man.'"
With "Lights Out," Graveyard has found new ways to express those feelings beyond sizzling riffs.
"On 'Lights Out,' we've broadened our musical spectrum," Sjoberg said. "Especially in the case of Joakim [Nilsson]'s vocals--you can hear him go from crazy, vindictive preacher to subtle and thoughtful lover seamlessly."
Nilsson's in wilder mode on "Goliath," a track that might sound best after a few drinks -- perhaps the band's own signature beer, Graveyard Hisingen Brew, an American Pale Lager. While the Swedish-made beer's not in wide release stateside, Graveyard made its U.S. headlining debut with a successful tour earlier this year, and plans to support the album with additional U.S. dates in early 2013.
"Life on the road touring since the release of our last record, 'Hisingen Blues,' has for sure left its mark on us as musicians," Sjöberg said. "We hope you'll f***, dance, cry and bang your head while listening to 'Lights Out.' Although maybe not at the same time."

Trying hard to hide the blood, to hide the blood from the crowd
They are trying to sell slavery as a dream to chase
Driven by fear consumer wars
No way to see their hoax
They are listening
They wanna know what we do
They are faking our freedom
Hoping we believe it's true
The world is full of snakes whispering in your ear
A stream of seducing words from a cloven tongue
They are trying to sell slavery as a dream to chase
Driven by fear consumer wars
No way to see their hoax
Fences at the border dividing the world in two
Have-nots feed the have-lots obeying the market rules
The rats are spreading plague, no stopping the disease
Their rotten dirty bite infecting the whole world
They are trying to sell slavery as a dream to chase
Driven by fear consumer wars
No way to see their hoax
The opening line in Graveyard's song 'Goliath,' "The wolves are at your door dressed like sheep, trying hard to hide the blood from the crowd" suggests that there are untrustworthy people outside your door, camouflaging themselves as harmless with malicious intentions. The second verse goes on to add that these individuals are trying to promote slavery as a cheerful pursuit, under the pretense of inspiration to the masses. The lyrics 'They are listening, they are watching, they want to know what we do. They are faking our freedom, hoping we believe it's true' indicate that there is an ambiguous, powerful force that is spying on us, who is exploiting our privileges, and we are not even aware of its existence. The pre-chorus then continues the narrative, "The world is full of snakes whispering in your ear, a stream of seducing words from a cloven tongue," which is a metaphor to indicate that we tend to be swayed by people in the guise of our well-wishers, but they are not.
The chorus then summarizes these observations, that there are people who try to deceive us, impelling us to live our lives the way they want us to live, causing worldly disasters in the name of consumerism. Lastly, the verses' final part provides a striking imagery of a world that is divided into two sets of societal classes, which are the haves and have nots, and the chasm between them is bridged by a fence. Furthermore, the lyrics 'The rats are spreading plague, no stopping the disease. Their rotten dirty bite infecting the whole world.' metaphorically illustrate that the nefarious infectivity of these individuals is compelling, gradually spreading and affecting the world.
