The Siren
Graveyard Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I was captive of a slave boat,
rowing through the swamp
They threw me off,
into the lake of alligators
Eyes were glowing in the dark
and fear was in the air
As the beasts were closing in,
panic struck my mind
Swimming through the mud,
yes, I was swimming through the mud
and a thousand flamingos led my way
Riding to the feast
where I was gonna meet my doom

Tonight a demon came into my head,
alright,
and tried to choke me in my sleep
Tonight a demon came into my head,
oh ho,
and tried to choke me in my sleep

I thought it was a feast of friends,
but Lord, they proved me wrong
What seemed to be my rescue
turned out to be a trap
Suddenly I was alone
inside the demon's house

He climbed the walls with blood and murder going through his eyes
And I couldn't escape
and every move I made was wrong

Tonight a demon came into my head,
alright,
and tried to choke me in my sleep
Tonight a demon came into my head,
and tried to choke me in my sleep

In the shape of skins of Sirens,
he seduced me with his song
Tried to choke me, and leave me in my sleep
Don't wake me up before the demon takes my soul

Fear and anger made my face
turn white as snow
My blood turned cold as ice,
my legs begun to shake
There was no way
I was gonna let the demon win
In the darkest hour,
my woman brought me back to life
She heard my screams,
she woke me from my dream
But I've still got the demon,
trapped inside my head

Tonight a demon came into my head,
alright,
and tried to choke me in my dream
Tonight a demon came into my head,
oh,
and tried to choke me in my dream

I've still got the demon
trapped inside my head

she must be some siren
she is in my dream

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Graveyard's "The Siren" tell the story of a man who is captured by slave traders and thrown into a swamp where alligators threaten to kill him. Although he manages to escape, the trauma follows him in his nightmares where he is choked by a demon in his sleep. The lyrics are poetic and symbolic, using metaphors to describe the man's journey through his fears and struggles. The line "and a thousand flamingos led my way" could represent hope or a guiding light, and the demon could be a symbol for the man's past or a deeper inner struggle.

The chorus of the song is haunting and powerful, with the repetition of "tonight a demon came into my head, and tried to choke me in my sleep" emphasizing the man's constant struggle to overcome his fears. The final lines reveal that the man's "woman" saved him from his dream, but the demon is still trapped inside his head, symbolizing that his struggles are not over, but he has the strength to fight them.

Overall, "The Siren" is a poignant and powerful song about overcoming one's fears and struggles. The use of metaphors and symbolism makes the lyrics relatable and universal, as we all face our own demons and must find the strength to overcome them.

Graveyard, Radio Moscow, all them witches, slow season, and wolf people just absolutely have rock n roll on their backs. Radio stations can have their pop and trap. These bands are legendary and keep the soul in the music

@balarau3017

No, these people are the last true souls :))) maybe

@husseymangtv

Wolfmother?

@KenGroth-ts6ge

It's unfortunate that nobody really comes close to graveyard. Even more unfortunate is that graveyard can't be as big as black sabbath or iron maiden, even though they deserve it

@husseymangtv

@@KenGroth-ts6ge they don't deserve to be as big as black sabbath. I'm sorry. Sabbath and the evolution of music. The time, the Era. Nothing can be better than that band. They definitely deserve 10x as much support as they get

@savrils

@nathannall5754

Not only is the song phenomenal... but I work on an inpatient psych unit and this has become our theme song. I've lost count of how many times I've sat through different versions of this same tale. Most involve a demon coming into someone's head
