Graveyard Lovers Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I took out my pen and pad and set to write my manifesto
It was a one line poem said dont let nothing ever get you low
Theres a hole open to heaven and I looked straight through
We were love drunk giving like we was living on the bayou

Who made these fucking rules and said that I was born to live by
Give em hell til I die dont bury me in no suit and tie
Cause I dont wanna work for another mans money
Yes sir no sir give it to me honey

I had a revelation I was told a lie
Live to consume work to buy and then die
but truth enters the mind one little word at a time
and you cant shake the smell of the cat on the line

Who made these fucking rules and said that I was born to live by
Give em hell til I die dont bury me in no suit and tie
Cause I dont wanna work for another mans money
Yes sir no sir give it to me honey

Tell me Im alive show me I am human
I wanna log off shut down and leave the room

Overall Meaning

The Graveyard Lovers' "Manifesto" is a song that challenges the societal norms and expectations that we are all supposed to adhere to in our lives. The band's lead singer, Zach Reynolds, uses the song to express his frustration with the idea that we are all born into certain roles in life and are expected to live within those constraints. He starts off with the opening line, "I took out my pen and pad and set to write my manifesto," and from there he goes on to declare that we should never allow anything to get us down.

In the next verse, Reynolds delves even further into his disillusionment with society's norms. He asks, "Who made these fucking rules and said that I was born to live by?" He then goes on to declare that he doesn't want to be buried in a suit and tie, and that he doesn't want to spend his life working for someone else's money. The lyrics are a direct challenge to the status quo and a call to arms for people to recognize the power they have to create their own paths in life.

The song ends with a poignant plea for authenticity and humanity. Reynolds sings, "Tell me I'm alive, show me I am human. I wanna log off, shut down, and leave the room." The lyrics are a powerful reminder that sometimes we all just need to step back from the noise and chaos of everyday life and reconnect with what it means to be truly human.

on Everyday is a War

So I played this song while driving and had car crash due to had banging. It was totally worth it. (My father does not think so.) This song is extremely good. For Mata Nuis sake, this lyrical masterpiece has to be more famous. It tastes like the tears of the gods. It is the magnum opus of all mankind. THE FUCKING PINNACLE OF HUMAN EVOLUTION! THIS SONG WIPES HIS ASS WITH VIVALDIS FOR SEASONS! EVERYTHING AGAINST THIS ACOUSTIC MESSIAH IS BLASPHEMY! IF GARLIC BREAD WOULD HAVE A SOUND, IT WOULD SOUND LIKE THIS! IF SOMEONE SAYS SOMETHING AGAINST THIS SONG, I WILL HUNT HIS ASS DOWN AND POUR HIS BLOOD ALL OVER THE GLOBE!

I give the track a score of 8/10.
Nice song. I recommend it.
