Nah, you don’t want to tell people because you don’t want to be caught lying. The cornerstone of fasting is having the right intention—doing it solely for God, not for any other reason. The Prophet ﷺ said in a Hadith Qudsi:

'Every deed of the son of Adam is for him, except fasting; it is for Me, and I shall reward for it.' (Sahih al-Bukhari 5927)

As for telling people, it depends on your intention. If it’s to seek praise, then it contradicts sincerity. But if it’s for accountability and support, then it can be beneficial. We’re human, and we forget—sometimes we need reminders to stay on the right path. This is nothing but sincere advice from a brother in humanity, and I hope it reaches you well.

It's impossible to hide the fact that I'm fasting, and I fast almost every other day. People are always eating and offering me food wherever I go. I tell them I'm fasting. Nobody objects, in fact, often times, people invite me to dinner at their home, so that I can break my fast in front of them. It's a good deal. I get a free meal, and they get to enjoy seeing me eat it. But then, I live in a Muslim neighborhood, where most of my interactions are with my fellow Muslims.

I think it is okay to fail a fast.. Fasting is so praised by God because it is about controlling oneself for nothing but the fact that God said so. This teaches us self control and self worth as you know to whom you should listen. And if it was easy, it wouldn’t be so important.
