Great 3 Lyrics

The lyrics of Great 3's song R.I.P talk about the hardships and consequences of life, showcasing the inevitability of karma. The song describes a life filled with struggles and setbacks, where one must constantly start again and again. The lyrics also suggest that the singer has made mistakes in the past by being too demanding, which has led to the overwhelming nature of their life. They cannot escape their current situation, as they are indebted to it. The lyrics also suggest the idea that time is relative for people, and what may seem like a short amount of time for one might be an eternity for another. The song highlights themes such as regret, hopelessness, and resilience, urging the listener to reflect on their own lives and the importance of making good choices.
The lines "朝が朝ではなく夜が夜でなくなり" (Asa ga asa de wa naku yoru ga yoru de nakunari) means "Morning ceases to be morning and night ceases to be night." This line is a reference to a famous Zen Buddhist aphorism "When you become completely empty, your eyes become clear and your body feels light, and you become like a feather blown by the wind, there is a metaphor for this, “Morning ceases to be morning, evening ceases to be evening.” This line suggests that time loses its meaning when one becomes empty and free of attachments.
The song was written by the Great 3's vocalist/guitarist Miyamoto Hiroji when he was going through a rough phase in his life. The song has become an anthem for those struggling with depression and anxiety in Japan. It has been covered by various Japanese artists, including GACKT and Dreams Come True.
The song has been described as one of the band's most straightforward, powerful, and memorable songs. One of the reasons why R.I.P resonates with people is that the melody is simple yet catchy, with just two chords throughout the song.
