Though the albums Insomniac (1995), Nimrod (1997) and Warning (2000) did not match the success of Dookie, they were still successful, with the first two reaching double platinum status, while the last achieved gold. Green Day's seventh album, a rock opera called American Idiot (2004), found popularity with a younger generation, selling six million copies in the U.S. Their next album, 21st Century Breakdown, was released in 2009 and achieved the band's best chart performance. It was followed by a trilogy of albums, ¡Uno!, ¡Dos!, and ¡Tré!, released in September, November, and December 2012, respectively. The trilogy did not perform as well as expected commercially, in comparison to their previous albums, largely due to a lack of promotion and Armstrong entering rehab. Their twelfth studio album, Revolution Radio, was released in October 2016 and became their third to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. The band's thirteenth studio album, Father of All Motherfuckers, was released on February 7, 2020, and was their final album released by Reprise. On October 24, 2023, the band announced that their fourteenth studio album, 'Saviors', will come out January 19, 2024.
In 2010, a stage adaptation of American Idiot debuted on Broadway. The musical was nominated for three Tony Awards: Best Musical, Best Scenic Design and Best Lighting Design, winning the latter two. The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2015, their first year of eligibility. Members of the band have collaborated on the side projects Pinhead Gunpowder, The Network, Foxboro Hot Tubs, The Longshot and The Coverups. They have also worked on solo careers.
Green Day has sold roughly 90 million records worldwide, them one of the world's best-selling artists. The group has been nominated for 20 Grammy awards and has won five of them with Best Alternative Album for Dookie, Best Rock Album for American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown, Record of the Year for "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" and Best Musical Show Album for American Idiot: The Original Broadway Cast Recording.

The night of the living dead is on its way
With a credit report for duty call
It's a lifetime guarantee
Stuffed in a coffin ten percent more free
Red-light special at the mausoleum
Give me something that I need
What's the consolation prize?
Economy sized dreams of hope
When I was a kid I thought
I wanted all the things that I haven't got
Oh, I learned the hardest way
Then I realized what it took
To tell the difference between
Thieves and crooks
Lesson learned to me and you
Give me something that I need
Satisfaction guaranteed
'Cause I'm thinking 'bout
A brand new hope
The one I've never known
'Cause now I know
It's all that I wanted
What's the consolation prize?
Economy sized dreams of hope
Give me something that I need
Satisfaction guaranteed
Because I'm thinking 'bout
A brand new hope
The one I've never known
And where it goes
And I'm thinking 'bout
The only road
The one I've never known
And where it goes
And I'm thinking 'bout
A brand new hope
The one I've never known
'Cause now I know
It's all that I wanted
The lyrics of "Macy's Day Parade" by Green Day reflect on the feeling of dissatisfaction and the search for hope in a world of materialism and consumerism. The Macy's Day Parade, as the title of the song suggests, is an event where people are consumed by the spectacle of consumerism, and the night of the living dead symbolizes the lifeless and superficial nature of the world around us. The singer sarcastically refers to a "credit report for duty call" and a "lifetime guarantee" as if life and happiness can be found in the things we buy. The "Red-light special at the mausoleum" further emphasizes the dark and morbid fascination people have with things that are dead and gone.
The chorus of the song, "Give me something that I need, satisfaction guaranteed to you, what's the consolation prize? Economy sized dreams of hope", is a cry for something more meaningful than what can be bought, something that satisfies the yearning for hope and a better life. The singer reflects on his own past, realizing that the things he thought he wanted were not really what he needed. He learned to distinguish between "thieves and crooks," realizing that not everything that glitters is gold.
In the end, the singer is thinking about a brand new hope, one he has never known before, and the only road that leads there. The song is a plea for something real, something that gives us a sense of purpose and fulfillment beyond the superficialities of life.

Green Day is defiantly my favorite band ever. The change in tone of songs over the years doesn't bother me like most.
I love their early work- But they were still teenagers at the time, so they changed obviously.
They started with songs about getting high, rocking out, having a blast (see what I did there ;))
There albums all had a bit of a change after, with different tones. Like insomniac, which seemed a lot more aggressive, but you see that in previous songs as well.
Then this album came out, it was about a lot more things in society like from minority's point or this songs point that money cant buy happiness.American Idiot was super political, which I love about it, 21st Century Breakdowns story is amazing too. These overall were of course told like a story, which was obvious.
From saint jimmy and the jesus of suburbia too Gloria and Christian.
Then uno, dos, tres which didn't follow a particular pattern like American idiot and 21st century breakdown came out.
I still loved a lot of the songs on those three albums though, they were great.
Finally, Revolution Radio- back with the politics. I really want to see them on tour when they get closer.
I love all of their work really.
Top songs include
1 Coming Clean
2 Longview (Man, that bass
3 Jesus of Suburbia
4 Last Night on Earth (This is literally my favorite love song ever)
5 She
6 Macys Day Parade
7 Waiting
8 Dominated Love Slave (Quiet possibly the greatest country song ever)
9 2000 light years away
10 Pulling teeth
Not really in that order.
Okay maybe more dookie songs should be on this list, can I just love all of their work? I do- what am I saying

I grew up in a wasteland. My parents' marriage was never normal, so fights and depression were always around. My brother and I found comfort in music. I still remember the day I got this album and this song spoke to me in many ways, it's hard to grow up not having a choice, not like everyone else does. My brother and I still remember this song as an anthem for the lost, the wandering souls looking for a home, for a place where they can belong.

Hope you finally found it
