Ready Or Not
Greg Wood Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

It's hard to learn
How tears can burn one's heart
But that's a thing that I found out
Too late I guess, Cause I'm in a mess

My faith has gone
Why lead me on this way?
I thought there'd be no price on love
But I had to pay.

If I could perform one miracle
I'd revive your thoughts of me
Yet I know that it's hopeless
You could never really care.
That's why I despair!

I'll go along hoping
Someday you'll learn

The flame in my heart, Dear,
Forever will burn!

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to "Ready or Not" by Greg Wood express the pain and heartbreak that comes with unrequited love. The opening lines state that it is difficult to learn how tears can burn one's heart, which is a feeling that the singer is experiencing because they are in love with someone who doesn't feel the same way. The singer realizes that they are in a mess because they allowed themselves to fall in love and now they're dealing with the emotional fallout.

The next few lines express the singer's frustration with their situation. They wonder why they were led on this path, as they believed that true love wouldn't come with a price. However, they soon discovered that love can be costly, and they ended up paying the price. The singer wishes they could perform a miracle of reviving their love interest's thoughts of them, but they know that it's hopeless. They're aware that the person they love doesn't feel the same way, and they will never truly care about them.

The final lines of the song express the singer's hope that someday their love will be reciprocated. They say that the flame in their heart will forever burn for this person even if their love interest doesn't feel the same. The song is a heartbreaking confession of unrequited love, and the singer is left to hope that someday their situation will change.

I used to love this song in 2004/2005. I think I had the EP and had this song on so many mixes. Haven't thought of this song in years, and taking a trip down memory lane at the moment. I was surprised to see this uploaded only a few weeks ago. <3 Loved the looping, I think you were the first musician I had heard use it. Glad to hear it again after all these years.
