1. The US post-rock, shoegaze band are originally from Richmond, Virginia, and now based in Brooklyn. They formed in 2000, took their name from writer Franz Kafka - author of the short story The Metamorphosis. The current members are Champ Bennett, Nikki King, Billy Bennett, Jeremiah Klinger, Cory Bise, Toby Driver and Mia Matsumiya. After the release of two EPs, Gregor Samsa and 27:36, and two splits with The Silent Type and Red Sparowes, Gregor Samsa delivered their much anticipated debut full-length 55:12, composed of eight songs submerged in dreamy, multi-layered post-rock atmospherics. In their next album, Gregor Samsa took a new approach to composition, both in process and instrumentation. The result was Rest, released in May of 2008 on Kora Records (US) and Own Records (Europe).

Untitled 1
Gregor Samsa Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
late at night when she dreams
hold out your hand
a simple gesture
a complex man
please, please, please
don't let go
on my knees, on my knees
you taught me how to speak
now i run, i run where i please
you taught me how to speak
now i run, i run where i please
you taught me how to speak
now i run, i run where i please
The lyrics of Gregor Samsa's song Untitled seem to be written from the perspective of someone who is experiencing a complex, possibly turbulent relationship. The opening lines, "I shield the screams late at night when she dreams" suggest that the singer is close to someone who is haunted by their own thoughts and emotions. The singer feels the need to "shield" the other person from their own pain, perhaps out of a sense of duty or obligation.
The lines "hold out your hand, a simple gesture, a complex man" suggest that the singer is both simple and complex. They may be struggling to communicate their thoughts and feelings, but at the same time they are deeply introspective and self-aware. The repetition of "please don't let go" and "on my knees, on my knees" implies a sense of desperation and neediness.
The last three lines of the song, "you taught me how to speak, now I run, I run where I please" suggest that the singer has been empowered by the relationship, but it's unclear whether this is a positive or negative thing. It could be interpreted as the singer breaking free from the constraints of the relationship and finding their own voice, or it could be a sign of the relationship deteriorating and the singer fleeing. Ultimately, the meaning of the lyrics is left up to interpretation, but they suggest a complicated and emotionally charged relationship.
