Gregorian Lyrics

Ah
Ah
Ah
Ah

There used to be a graying tower alone on the sea
You became the light on the dark side of me
Love remained a drug that's the high and not the pill

But did you know, that when it snows
My eyes become large, and the light that you shine can be seen?

Baby, I compare you to a kiss from a rose on the gray
Ooh, the more I get of you, the stranger it feels, oh
And now that your rose is in bloom
A light hits the gloom on the gray

Ah
Ah

There is so much a man can tell you, so much he can say
You remain my power, my pleasure, my pain
Whoa, to me you're like a growing addiction that I can't deny
Won't you tell me, is that healthy, babe?

But did you know that when it snows
My eyes become large, and the light that you shine can be seen?

Baby, I compare you to a kiss from a rose on the gray
Ooh, the more I get of you, the stranger it feels, oh
Now that your rose is in bloom
A light hits the gloom on the gray

I've been kissed by a rose on the gray
I've been kissed by a rose on the
I've been kissed by a rose on the gray (and if I should fall, would it all go away?)
I've been kissed by a rose on the gray

There is so much a man can tell you, so much he can say
You remain my power, my pleasure, my pain
To me you're like a growing addiction that I can't deny
But won't you tell me, is that healthy, babe?

But did you know that when it snows
My eyes become large, and the light that you shine can be seen?

Baby, I compare you to a kiss from a rose on the gray
Ooh, the more I get of you, the stranger it feels, oh
Now that your rose is in bloom
A light hits the gloom on the gray

Yes, I compare you to a kiss from a rose on the gray
Ooh, the more I get of you, the stranger it feels, oh
Now that your rose is in bloom
A light hits the gloom on the gray

Now that your rose is in bloom
A light hits the gloom on the gray

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Gregorian's "Kiss From A Rose" describe the transformative power of love. The song begins by setting the scene of a "graying tower" alone on the sea, implying a feeling of loneliness and isolation. However, the song's narrator finds solace and light through their loved one, who becomes their guiding force. They compare their love to a "drug" that produces a "high," implying that it's addictive but also necessary for their well-being.

The chorus of the song compares the singer's love to a "kiss from a rose on the gray," which suggests that the beauty of their love can brighten even the darkest moments. As the relationship grows stronger, the singer becomes more deeply entrenched in their love, describing it as a "growing addiction that I can't deny." However, they also question the healthiness of this attachment, asking their loved one if it's sustainable.

The lyrics to "Kiss From A Rose" ultimately convey a sense of hope, as the culmination of the song sees the singer's love "in bloom" and a "light hits the gloom on the gray." This ending suggests that even in the darkest of times, there is always hope for a brighter future through the power of love.

There used to be a greying tower alone on the sea.
You became the light on the dark side of me.
Love remained a drug that's the high and not the pill.
But did you know,
That when it snows,
My eyes become large and
The light that you shine can be seen.

Baby,
I compare you to a kiss from a rose on the grey.
Ooh,
The more I get of you,
Stranger it feels, yeah.
And now that your rose is in bloom.
A light hits the gloom on the grey.

There is so much a man can tell you,
So much he can say.
You remain,
My power, my pleasure, my pain, baby
To me you're like a growing addiction that I can't deny.
Won't you tell me is that healthy, baby?
But did you know,
That when it snows,
My eyes become large and the light that you shine can be seen.

Baby,
I compare you to a kiss from a rose on the grey.
Ooh, the more I get of you
Stranger it feels, yeah
Now that your rose is in bloom,
A light hits the gloom on the grave.

I've been kissed by a rose on the grave,
I've been kissed by a rose (on the grave)
I've been kissed by a rose on the grave,
... And if I should fall along the way
I've been kissed by a rose
... Been kissed by a rose on the grave.

There is so much a man can tell you,
So much he can say.
You remain
My power, my pleasure, my pain.
To me you're like a growing addiction that I can't deny, yeah
Won't you tell me is that healthy, baby.
But did you know,
That when it snows,
My eyes become large and the light that you shine can be seen.

Baby,
I compare you to a kiss from a rose on the grave.
Ooh, the more I get of you
Stranger it feels, yeah
Now that your rose is in bloom,
A light hits the gloom on the grave.
Yes I compare you to a kiss from a rose on the grave
Ooh, the more I get of you
Stranger it feels, yeah
And now that your rose is in bloom
A light hits the gloom on the grave
Now that your rose is in bloom,
A light hits the gloom on the grave.

I love these 15 seconds from 2:30 to 2:45 - I wish there was a whole track like this

Great Galaxies. When it first came out, Kiss from a Rose became almost an instant success, in part because of the soft way Seal crooned the lyrics. I can't believe I'm saying this, but the Gregorian version comes in second place to the original, by not by much. And they do it not by trying to slavishly imitate Seal, but by going off and doing their own special thing.
