Wake up, my darling
Wake up and see for yourself
You were woven in patchwork
Clouded and hazed
In your past like a lover can be
Alone
Despite all our shuffling
Our train wreck a-talking
Despite all our outfield saves
Treading water
The sea was your daughter
But now she's gone
Gone
It's alright
Honey, it's alright
It's alright to be alone
Honey, it's alright
Honey, it's alright
To be amongst the rubble and stone
The song "Honey It's Alright" by Gregory Alan Isakov is a poignant ballad about finding solace in loneliness. The first verse encourages someone to wake up and take a look at their surroundings for themselves. The second verse describes this person's past as patchwork, clouded, and hazed, perhaps referring to a confusing or tumultuous relationship. The chorus reassures this person that it's alright to be alone, despite the chaos of their past and the complications of their present relationships.
The lyrics in the third verse refer to a train wreck and outfield saves, perhaps symbolizing past efforts to rescue the person from a difficult situation or relationship. The image of treading water and the realization that the sea, once their daughter, is now gone, indicates a loss of hope or direction. Yet the chorus repeats the message that it's alright to be alone, suggesting that finding peace within oneself might be the answer. The final line, "To be amongst the rubble and stone," implies that even in the midst of chaos or destruction, one can find acceptance and comfort in solitude.
Overall, this song is a gentle reminder that being alone does not necessarily mean being lonely. Through its simple yet poetic lyrics and haunting melody, "Honey It's Alright" encourages us to find inner strength and peace in the face of difficult circumstances.
