Kill The Turkey
Gregory and the Hawk Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Kill the turkey, shoot him down,
Pluck his feathers, Make him growl,
Make burgers, kill the cow,
Slit his throat, let him bleed,
Make steaks, make burgers,
Good to eat,

Kill the beast, took our daughter,
I'll break off,
But if you want it bad enough,
Oh if you want it bad enough,

Keep your eyes on the prize,
Keep your eyes on the prize,
Keep your eyes on the prize,
Keep your eyes on the prize,

Kiss the clever, one who said,
You made your bed,
now lie in it, Die in it,
Kiss the shit, that hit the fence,
When you went and killed,
Another man,

But if you want it bad enough,
If you want it bad enough,

Keep your eyes on the prize,
Keep your eyes on the prize

Keep your eyes on the prize
Keep your eyes on the prize

Overall Meaning

The lyrics in Gregory and the Hawk's "Kill The Turkey" are particularly difficult to decipher as they seem to feature a range of disturbing imagery and seem to be conveyed in a rather cryptic fashion. The first stanza features a few phrases that seem to suggest a rather violent approach to food and meat consumption. The singer sings "Kill the turkey, shoot him down, Pluck his feathers, Make him growl, Make burgers, kill the cow, Slit his throat, let him bleed, Make steaks, make burgers, Good to eat.” Here, the singer seems to suggest a rather brutal approach to meat consumption, which seems to be accentuated by the overall tone and mood of the music.

The second stanza seems to introduce another significant theme or idea. The singer sings "Kill the beast, took our daughter, I'll break off, but if you want it bad enough, Oh if you want it bad enough, Keep your eyes on the prize.” Many researchers believe that this could be a reference to kidnapping or some form of violence against women. The singer seems to suggest that if the listener wants revenge or justice, they need to keep their eyes on the prize and stay focused. The third and final stanza also features some rather cryptic imagery, with the singer singing "Kiss the clever, one who said, You made your bed, now lie in it, Die in it, Kiss the shit, that hit the fence, When you went and killed, Another man." It is difficult to decode the meaning behind these lyrics, although they seem to suggest some form of reckoning or punishment.
