Soilbleed
Grendel Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

The marine corps
Does not want robots

The marine corps
Wants killers

The marine corps
Wants do build indestructible men
Men without fear

The marine corps
Wants killers
Men without fear (2X)

One! Two! Three! Four! (6x)

(And then you will be in a world of shit!)

My corps! Your corps! Our corps! Marine corps! (2X)

Sythe's cold edge thrust
Spreading blood on their face
Bells toll the coming of their final days

Red flowers growing
To mark all our tears
The pain and the anguish
We're planting the seeds

Reaching forward, through the dark
Dead, marching forward, much colder than the cud
Reaching forward, through the dark
Spreading the soilbleed, no return when you're marked

Contorted spirit
Distorted creed
You know that your time has come
When the soil bleeds

Contorted spirit
Distorted creed
You know that your time has come
When the soil bleeds

Rot and corrosion
The throth in your lungs
There is no release
Gasp despair through the mud

Red flowers growing
To mark all our tears
The pain and the anguish
We're planting the seeds

Reaching forward, through the dark
Dead, marching forward, much colder than the cud
Reaching forward, through the dark
Spreading the soilbleed, no return when you're marked

Contorted spirit
Distorted creed
You know that your time has come
When the soil bleeds

Contorted spirit
Distorted creed
You know that your time has come
When the soil bleeds

My corps! Your corps! Our corps! Marine corps! (2X)

From my cold dead hands (2X)

One! Dead
Two! Evil
Three! Torture
Four! Kill!

One! Two! Three! Four! (3X)

My corps! Your corps! Our corps! Marine corps! (2X)

Contorted spirit
Distorted creed
You know that your time has come
When the soil bleeds

One! Two! Three! Four! (2X)

I am

In a world
Of shit

Overall Meaning

The song "Soilbleed" by the industrial rock band, Grendel, is an intense critique of the role of violence in the military and the consequences it has on those who participate in it. The lyrics reference the US Marine Corps throughout the song, expressing a desire to create "indestructible men" who are "killers" without fear. The intense militarization and dehumanization of soldiers is highlighted throughout the song, as the lyrics point out the inevitable consequences of such a mentality: "Contorted spirit, distorted creed / You know that your time has come / When the soil bleeds."

The first part of the song, where the band repeats "The marine corps does not want robots / The marine corps wants killers / The marine corps wants to build indestructible men / Men without fear," speaks to the idea that the Marine Corps wants soldiers who are obedient and will carry out orders without question. However, this mentality leads to the loss of humanity and empathy, as soldiers are desensitized to violence and suffering. By the end of the song, the lyrics express a feeling of being trapped in a never-ending cycle of violence and death, with the final line "I am in a world of shit" conveying a sense of despair and hopelessness.

Overall, "Soilbleed" is a powerful commentary on the destructive nature of war and the impact it has on those who participate in it. The lyrics are a call to question the militarization of society and to advocate for peace and empathy towards all.

This was really, really, REALLY good. Did you edit or remix any of the sound portion? Everything fits together so perfectly I'm amazed.

Grendel did all this

Obviously, the Marine instructor mantra paced cleverly alongside the chorus beat interconnects the whole piece. Great pacing of the visuals, voice overs too. I don't like the flashed symbols (money, peace) as much because they are so blatant; your song could have conveyed this more subtly with the present visuals and their sequencing from aggrandizment, and increasing towards social commentary about war itself.

This is an amazing song, and, as far as I am concerned, this is the "official" video for this song. I keep coming back to this particular video, for this song, when I want to listen to this song, and have it played on my big screen. Amazing job!
