They officially formed as Grey in 2015, first releasing a remix of "Where Are Ü Now" by Jack Ü, later remixing songs by artists including Zedd, Selena Gomez, Troye Sivan, Mike Posner and Ariana Grande. In 2016, they released their debut single "Starving" with Hailee Steinfeld and Zedd. Their debut EP, Chameleon, was released on September 29, 2017. In 2018, they released "The Middle" with Maren Morris and Zedd and signed to Island Records. They released the single "Want You Back" featuring Léon on January 10, 2019. On October 23, 2020 they released their 2nd EP titled "Light" and later on December 11, 2020 they released their 3rd EP titled "DARK"

The lyrics to Grey's song Use Me are a representation of a person's willingness to be used by their loved one. The singer is begging their partner to use them before they die, to confuse and abuse them before they realize what's happening. The lyrics are a metaphor for a toxic relationship where the victim is so enamored with their partner that they're willing to be used and hurt rather than losing them. The chorus of the song further explains how the victim's dreams mean everything to them and their partner holds the power to destroy them. The singer is pleading to be torn down and made to beg for their partner's love, as they feel it's the only way to truly hold onto it.
Additionally, the lyrics delve into the idea of how life fades away, and sins stay behind. This line could mean that the singer is so far gone in their relationship, that they might as well be committing sins. Their life will be wasted away trying to make their relationship work for the sake of pleasing their partner. The final line of the song talks about how the singer will fade away like the stars, and rise again.
