Formed as a side project to Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, the band was originally known as Mini Seeds and was formed by Cave as "a way to escape the weight of The Bad Seeds." The band's name was inspired by a Memphis Slim song, Grinder Man Blues, which Cave is noted to have started singing during one of the band's early rehearsal sessions. The band's eponymous debut studio album, Grinderman, was released in 2007 to extremely positive reviews and the band's second and final studio album, Grinderman 2, was released in 2010 to a similar reception.
Following extensive touring after the release of Grinderman 2, Grinderman disbanded after a performance at the Meredith Music Festival in Victoria, Australia in December 2011. The band split up in order to focus on The Bad Seeds upcoming material. However, Jim Sclavunos later said: "I can't predict what the future of Grinderman is - if there is a future." The band reunited for a one-off performance at Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio, California in April 2013.

Worm Tamer
Grinderman Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Here she comes rising with the yellow dawn
You know I would do nothing to ever harm her
I guess I've loved you for too long
You know they call my girl the Worm Tamer
She cracks lightning like a viper's tongue
She leaves me every night and who can blame her?
For too long
For too long
For too long
You know, you know they call my girl the Serpent Wrangler
Eating inchworms down by the bill-a-bong
I spent all night trying to untangle her
But I guess I've loved you for too long
For too long
For too long
For too long
You know they call my baby the Mambo Rider
I cry storms of tears til the rising of the dawn
And you know I'm only happy when I'm inside her
I guess that I've just loved you for too long
For too long
For too long
For too long
For too long
For too long
Well my baby calls me the Loch Ness Monster
Two great big humps and then I'm gone
Actually I am the Abominable Snowman
And I guess that I've loved you for too long
The lyrics of Grinderman's song "Worm Tamer" describe a lover's affection for his partner, who is known by different names such as the Snake Charmer, Worm Tamer, Serpent Wrangler, and Mambo Rider. The singer acknowledges that he has loved her for too long and cannot imagine doing any harm to her. He admires her power and energy, comparing her lightning-like movements to a viper's tongue. Despite his attempts to keep her close, she often leaves him, but he still loves her just the same.
The repeated use of "for too long" throughout the song suggests that the singer is aware of his excessive love for her, whether it's a healthy love or a destructive obsession. The last lines of the song add a playful twist as the singer refers to himself as the Abominable Snowman and the Loch Ness Monster, injecting humor into the song's intense passion.
