Grinspoon changed their sound to more mainstream rock by their 2002 album, New Detention, gaining fans and peaking at No. 2 on the ARIA Albums Charts; similarly 2007's Alibis & Other Lies also reached No. 2. Their 2004 album, Thrills, Kills & Sunday Pills, which peaked at No. 4, won the 2005 'Best Rock Album Award' at the ARIA Music Awards.
The band was signed to Universal Records in United States by late 1998, they were promoted by the songs "Champion", which featured in Gran Turismo 3; "Post Enebriated Anxiety", which was on the international version of Guide to Better Living; "Chemical Heart", via the internet; and a cover of the Prong song "Snap Your Fingers, Snap Your Neck", from Grinspoon's Pushing Buttons EP, which was included on ECW: Extreme Music.
On 4 December 2013, they announced that they were going on an indefinite hiatus to pursue individual projects.
More Than You Are

Did they come around and watch you're style?
Did you have plans to be a star?
Did you have plans to become more than you are?
More than you are,
More than you are,
More than you are now?
Maybe being there was far to obscene,
Swing it high or swing it low
Swing it anytime that you want to go
More than you are,
More than you are,
More than you are now?
Alright
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Alright
Were you neurotic as a child
Did they come around and watch you style
Did you have plans to be a star
Did you have plans to become more than you are?
More than you are
More than you are
More than you are now?
The lyrics of Grinspoon's song "More Than You Are" seem to be addressing an individual's desire for success and recognition. The opening lines inquire about the individual's childhood, asking if they were "neurotic" and if others observed their behavior. This could be interpreted as the individual's desire for attention from a young age. The following line, "Did you have plans to be a star?" indicates that this desire for attention may have translated into a desire for fame and success.
As the chorus repeats the phrase "More than you are," it seems to suggest that the individual is currently not satisfied with their level of success and wants to achieve more. The line "Maybe being there was far too obscene" could be interpreted as feeling out of place in their current situation or environment, further emphasizing their desire for something more. The phrase "Swing it high or swing it low" could be interpreted as the individual's determination to take risks and try new things in order to achieve their desired level of success.
Overall, the lyrics of "More Than You Are" suggest a longing for success and recognition, and a willingness to take risks and try new things to achieve those goals.

@Gio That's how a disturbingly high number of Aussies I've interacted with act. Some of them are the absolute best people around, but a lot are just the opposite too. It's actually kinda heartbreaking for us outsiders who love that country so much.

The grinners have always been bigger then silverchair ever was.!! The only reason silverchair were as popular as they were is the fact that they were kids.!!!
