Song 4 Mutya
Groove Armada Lyrics

(Out of control)

You're gone now, I feel fine
17 months, yeah I feel fine
What about you? I betcha been cryin'
I bet ya been goin' around town lyin'

I'm drivin' fast, I feel so fine
I got Prince singin' Hot Thing to me
I know every line
So I pulled up to the red light
Sittin' here in my car
I looked up to my right, and there you are
Sat there with some new girl, what is this?
(Don't panic, panic, Mutya don't drive erratic)
That's who has replaced me, what a diss
(Don't panic, panic, don't act too manic, manic)

It's a sure fine way to ruin my day
Just as soon as I'm on top of my life, there you are again
But don't react now, you can't go back now
Don't panic, panic, Mutya, just look ahead now

Let's cut to it, my girl for lunch
I was feelin' on top of the world
And I just got a hunch

That you were sat behind my back
Didn't need to turn 'round
I felt sick at the thought
You're laughing loud

Sat there with some new girl, what is this?
(Don't panic, panic, Mutya don't drive erratic)
That's who has replaced me, what a diss
(Don't panic, panic, don't act too manic, manic)

It's a sure fine way to ruin my day
Just as soon as I'm on top of my life, there you are again
But don't react now, you can't go back now
Don't panic, panic, Mutya, just look ahead now

(Out of control)

It's a sure fine way to ruin my day
Just as soon as I'm on top of my life, there you are again

But don't react now, you can't go back now
Don't panic, panic, Mutya, just look ahead now

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Groove Armada's "Song 4 Mutya" speak to the feeling of being out of control after a breakup. The singer begins by saying that they feel fine since their significant other has been gone for 17 months, but then they see their ex with a new person, and everything falls apart. The singer is driving and listening to Prince's "Hot Thing," and even though they're singing along, they can't help but feel a sense of panic when they see their ex with someone new.

The chorus repeats the sentiment that seeing their ex with someone new is a surefire way to ruin their day. They try to keep themselves from acting out or panicking, instead telling themselves to look ahead and keep moving forward. The bridge of the song provides a brief respite as the singer has lunch with their friend and feels good about life, but then they see their ex again and the cycle repeats itself.

Overall, the lyrics to "Song 4 Mutya" convey a sense of powerlessness and the struggle to maintain control in the wake of a difficult breakup.

Mutya deserved a stronger solo career. What a unique voice and presence.

@theresuga

I don't think she was really willing to work hard for it. Not that she doesn't work hard but you basically have to sacrifice everything, get stuck on tourbuses for months on end... she was never going to do that given she left SB so she could be a more present and stable mother.

@leoui5081

100% agree. Always loved her voice.

@dylanparker130

couldn't agree more - mutya, winehouse & gabrielle are the top 3 voices of their generation imo

@dylanparker130

@theresuga my impression was that, it wasn't about a lack of sacrifice - more that she didn't know how to "play the game" when it came to stuff like interviews.

look at radio 1 - they play everything rita ora releases non-stop, not least because she's a great interviewee. so they play the songs of people who boost their ratings when invited on.

@theresuga

@Dylan ParkerOh I think she knows how to play the game - she was working in the industry for years before her solo career. But yeah, I don't think she wants to play the game, especially when you have a kid and that becomes your strongest focus.

Sugababes weren't the same after Mutya left. I'm addicted to her voice. So underrated.

@lloydr64able

What voice? Sounds like autotuned whispering, heidi was the one with the voice!

@samwhyte4392

@Lloyd Robinson LOL! If sounding like the microphone is turned off in every live performance compared to Mutya and keisha is "the voice" then we've all been so wrong this whole time. Have a laugh 🤣🤣

@lloydr64able

@Samii Whyte keisha is the voice 😂😂😂 sinse when?
