1. Sesame Street, New York City, New York (1967 - present)
Originally played by Frank Oz and now portrayed by Eric Jacobson
Grover is a valiant, caring blue monster who is chock-full of childlike exuberance. The boisterous little monster often gets himself into pickles by rushing into situations without weighing the consequences.
Excitable Grover loves to explain new concepts, though he sometimes has a tough time expressing his thoughts clearly. Opposites are a particularly difficult idea for him to explain, but he always manages to get his point across in the end, even though he sometimes swoons dramatically from all the effort.
2. A Birmingham based post-rock outfit who released several records on Bearos Records.
Between 1993-2003, Grover released a host of albums, singles and split releases on independent labels around the world. Broadcasts on BBC Radio1 (including a Peel Session in 2001), plus airtime on a variety of independent stations in Europe and the USA, helped Grover build a dedicated international fan-base and influence the UK post-rock scene.

3. A twee pop band from Bellingham, Washington, USA. They released a split single with Crayon and an EP, both on Gritty Kitty records.
4. Grover was the short-lived trio led by ex-Let's Active guitarist (and the former Mrs. Mitch Easter) Angie Carlson, backed with drummer Chris Phillips, and bassist Dave Burris. Their sole album, My Wild Life, was released by Zero Hour Records in 1995, but pretty much disappeared immediately. Phillips went back to his day job as the drummer for the Squirrel Nut Zippers. Burris switched to guitar and formed the eclectic alt-country act Jolene. Carlson largely retired from music, taking up a position as an editor for a North Carolina alternative weekly newspaper.

You really get around
I'm not a liar
I don't wanna' hold you down
You're in it part time
But I'm so impressed
I'm so impressed
But you write me letters
Write me letters
You don't have to be a superhero
You don't have to be a mega-man
You don't have to be a superhero
You don't have to be a mega-man
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
I see you everywhere
You really get around
I'm not too angry
I don't wanna' hold you down
You're in it part time
Well, I'm so impressed
I'm so impressed
You're on the ride again
But you write me letters
Write me letters
You don't have to be a superhero
You don't have to be a mega-man
You don't have to be a superhero
You don't have to be a mega-man
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
You don't have to be a superhero
You don't have to be a mega-man
You don't have to be a superhero
You don't have to be a mega-man
You don't have to be anything
You don't have to be anything
At all...
The central message of Grover's song "Superhero" appears to be a call for individuals to remain true to themselves and not feel pressured to conform to expectations or stereotypes. The singer acknowledges that the person they are addressing is involved in many different activities and has diverse interests. Instead of judging them, however, the singer accepts this reality and encourages the individual to continue pursuing their passions, even if it means not adhering to traditional ideas of what makes someone successful or special. The refrain, "You don't have to be a superhero / You don't have to be a mega-man" emphasizes this sentiment, driving home the idea that one doesn't have to be extraordinary in order to be valued and appreciated.
The repetition of the lines "I'm not a liar / I don't wanna' hold you down / I'm not too angry / I don't wanna' hold you down" implies that there is a history of tension or discomfort between the singer and the person they are addressing. Despite this, the singer seems to be attempting to move past this and rebuild their relationship on a foundation of honesty and mutual respect. The fact that the person is still writing letters further emphasizes that there is a desire to maintain communication and connection, even if they are not always physically present.
Overall, "Superhero" comes across as a supportive and uplifting song that encourages individuals to embrace their unique qualities and pursue their passions without fear of judgment or ostracism. It emphasizes the importance of acceptance, honesty, and communication in building and maintaining relationships.
