Although Gryffin has recently been on the cusp of a major breakthrough, he began his musical journey growing up as a classically trained pianist, before expanding his sonic palette with guitar at an early age. He played in bands to initially hone his instrumental abilities, until he dove head first into the world of music production at the University of Southern California. Throughout college and beyond, Gryffin further refined his skills that have blossomed into his artistic mastery that is appreciated by his counterparts and adoring fans around the world. In his genre, artists typically DJ to showcase their talents, but live performance is where his heart lies in capturing the essence of his work.
With a world-debut at this past SnowGlobe Music Festival, Gryffin unveiled his anticipated live performance to finally connect with those who have been behind his impressive play counts. His passion and love for musicianship, and artistry within music shined through as he performed with live instrumentation (guitar, keyboard, synths, & drum pads) in a continuous dance music format to keep up the energy characteristic of DJ sets. Since this performance was a resounding success, the excitement is brewing for his next two sold-out shows at Los Angeles’ The Roxy, and New York’s Bowery Ballroom to close out his first-ever live tour.
Following the conclusion of the tour, Gryffin made the leap to his first original production, “Heading Home” featuring Josef Salvat, which immediately became #1 on Spotify’s Global Viral 50 chart, US Viral Chart, and accumulated a million plays in one week after being released via Darkroom/Interscope Records. It’s already looking like 2016 is going to be Gryffin’s biggest year yet.

All the things that you said that you needed after all (after all)
All those times we had, they left a mark (mark, mark)
And I know life goes on but I miss you in the dark
Days turn to years, turn to stories we tell about
All of the good times and times that were hell when
We were chasin' a fire and watchin' it turn to smoke (smoke)
And some of us just let go (oh)
You got lost (you got lost), had enough (had enough)
Time, it did what it does and turned what you had to rust
But wherever you are, understand me
You were loved
(Loved, loved, ooh)
You were loved
(Loved, loved, ooh)
I hope that our paths, they cross again (again, again, again)
'Cause I'm dyin' to know all the places you have been (oh)
Some day when the future meets the past
That's when we'll make up for all of the years that went so fast, mm
'Cause days became years became stories we tell
That I know you can't deal but here's wishin' you well
We were young (we were young), we were broke (we were broke)
We were chasin' a fire that suddenly turned to smoke
And some of us had to let go (oh), yeah
You got lost (you got lost), had enough (had enough)
Time, it did what it does and turned what we had to rust
But wherever you are, you should know (ooh)
You were loved
(Loved, loved, ooh)
You were loved
(Loved, loved, ooh)
You were loved
(Loved) loved (loved, ooh)
(Loved, loved, ooh)
You were loved
(Loved, loved, ooh)
(Loved, loved, ooh)
The lyrics to Gryffin's song "You Were Loved" speak to the longing and reminiscence that comes with a lost connection or relationship. The song reflects on the past and the experiences shared between two individuals. The opening lines express hope that the other person has found everything they were seeking, acknowledging that they had expressed their needs and desires. The singer acknowledges that even though life goes on, they still miss the other person in moments of darkness, implying that their presence was a source of comfort and light.
The lyrics then delve into the memories of their time together. The line "Days turn to years, turn to stories we tell about" encapsulates the passage of time and the shared experiences that have become part of their personal narratives. The lyrics acknowledge that not all times were easy or enjoyable, as there were difficult moments ("times that were hell"). However, the overall sentiment is one of cherishing and acknowledging the significance of those times, both good and bad.
The chorus emphasizes the theme of love and the affirmations that the other person was indeed loved. It emphasizes this by repeating the phrase "You were loved" multiple times. It is as if the singer wants to make sure that no matter what has happened, the other person understands the depth of their feelings. The chorus also expresses hope for a future reconciliation, as they wish for their paths to cross again and express an eagerness to know about the other person's experiences.
Overall, "You Were Loved" is a heartfelt reflection on a past connection and a testament to the enduring love and longing that lingers even after the relationship has ended.

I think this is a song-love-letter for un-toxic breakups: it's like a mix of un-said confession, moving on, admitting mistakes and wishing the best for their exes. No trash talks just pure appreciation and sincerity.
