Mar
Guardarraya Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Mar
Tengo que confesarte la verdad
Me gustan las montañas mucho más
Me llenan de tanta seguridad
Tus olas ya me empiezan a asustar
...
Mar
Si un día tu me llegas a atrapar
No me vas a dejar ni decidir
El día de mi vida yo me quiera morir
Me mantendás vivo a tu voluntad
...
Maaaaaar
Maaaaaar
Maaaaaar
Hay mar
Hay mar hay mar

Hay mar hay mar
FIN

Overall Meaning

Guardarraya's song Mar is a beautiful and introspective song about the singer's relationship with the ocean. In the opening verse, he confesses that while he enjoys the ocean, he ultimately feels much more secure and at ease in the mountains. This sets up the tension for the rest of the song, as he contemplates the power of the ocean and what might happen if he were to become completely immersed in it. The chorus, which repeats the word "mar" over and over again, perfectly captures the hypnotic and overwhelming presence of the sea.

The second verse takes a darker turn, as the singer imagines what might happen if he were to be caught by the ocean's currents and held captive. He fears that he would lose all agency and be forced to live out his days at the mercy of the sea. The final "Maaaaaar" of the song is especially haunting, as it seems to echo out over the waves themselves.
