Tractor Rape Chain
Guided by Voices Lyrics

Why is it every time I think about you
Something that you have said or implied makes me doubt you
Then I look into your cynical eyes and I know it
As if it never meant anything to me

Parallel lines on a slow decline
Tractor rape chain
Better yet, let's all get wet on the tractor rape chain
Speed up, slow down, go all around in the end
In the first place it's probably just paranoia
But there's a ghost in my room and he says I better run
It's a thing I know
It's a thing I believe in
Won't you tell it to go away?

Parallel lines on a slow decline - tractor rape chain
Better yet, let's all get wet on the tractor rape chain
Speed up, slow down, go all around in the end
Speed up, slow down, go all around in the end

The best 'drop' in music history is the intro to this

Matthias Carrigan

I know the feeling. This song articulates the ineffable. Tragic beauty, freshly cut grass and psychotic depression. Sunshine and death. See, when I try and verbalize it it comes out all hokey and sophomoric. I guess that's why they express it in song.

SimMaster

Probably one of the best songs ever made

Ashley Monday

Not "probably". Is.

I fell in love with this album when I used to hike through the bush near my house with a fishing rod, some headphones, a six pack and a joint. I would spend hours fishing and listening to GBV, The Beatles, and Wipers. It really changed my life. Every now and then when I’m in a rut, feeling down and uncreative, I find a new GBV song that I’ve never heard before and it tends to bring me back to life for another few months.

Cheers for the great story

Great post, GBV got me out of a serious funk this year.

I still remember the room I was sitting in when I first heard this LP. My musician friend and I had heard a lot of great stuff together. So when he said he had a new band to check out unlike the rest I was doubtful. I drove home with song in my head and loved their sound ever since. Great post

I saw this comment months ago and it still pops into my head sometimes.

I can't explain this band's greatness. It's futile.
