I personally find Guild Wars 2 to have a very intuitive system, that doesn't punish you for taking your time to get places. If you are a new player, take your time, explore, try out features, progress gradually, it helps you understand your profession.

However, if you have multiple characters, and don't want to repeat content, the game offers various shortcuts that your first character paved way for you.

Lastly, the game doesn't want you to play, to only play the late-game Fractals and Raids. I find when I played the game, I could really sit and enjoy the content, and my only fear was running out of that content. Reaching level 80, completing the story line and trying out WvW and PvE had me for a moment, because I lost myself in what to do. The game is quite well built up to help you find things to do; craft ascended and prepare for Raids, which is hard IMO. It doesn't only take a lot of preparing, but also a team of 9 others doing the same. It's time consuming, but it's still a choice.

I will always credit Guild Wars 2 for never giving me reason to skip content to reach the end. I find enjoying the content as the story progresses to be most fun.

The only shame is that I don't like all the story filled into Raids. I'm pretty sure the developers created it for late-game activity, something not everybody would want. I'd prefer if all story related things in Guild Wars 2 could be done in solo instances, but that's just me.

The Best Bilbo

As a new player, I would like to put in a few positives as well as negatives to the game itself.

If you love MMO gameplay but want something different, this simply gives it in strides. GW2 is a very fun game and it stands out among other MMOs out there.
The variety once you hit level 11 and see how deep each profession gets is amazing and it's a lot of fun to get a feel for weapon skills, their play styles, and builds.
Each class and their unique mechanics, which draws one in to see how amazing their depth gets and how strongly they tie into that (especially Engineer, which is insane once you unlock Toolbelt skills.)

However, the grind to just see how the class unfolds is a tad too much: perhaps a simple fix with a "try it out" kinda option, where you are sent to an area similarly to how you are when you use a max level up boost to get a better grasp for what that class actually holds.
The game is a bit skill based, which can be a good thing, but I think the introduction to that fact takes a bit too long. The first story quest, imo, should be a bit harder to drive in that fact. SKill is not a secondary trait, it's the focus. Otherwise, players get to level 35, 40 only to get angry at what seems like a cheap death, because the game didn't force the fact that they HAVE to dodge, HAVE to learn mechanics, etc early on.

I think leveling in gw2 is very enjoyable. It didn't take me 12 hours :D I used to just run around admiring how water is done in this game and other stuff, or experimenting with different weapons and skills.

Awesome video man! Really appreciate all the hours you put into the "from zero to hero" project. Keep up the great work man!

Decently put together and tested; you're already aware of the few minor issues your methods have but I think the one thing you might be taking for granted the most is knowledge, which I appreciate is impossible to take out of the equation legitimately.
How long it takes might not actually matter to a lot of people, since the ones enjoying the game and wanting to raid are going to be the most willing to put in the time if they're having fun. Maybe the more important questions are: What are the barriers for entry to raiding and how would someone overcome them?
Again, I'm aware of what these are but a ton of people on reddit claim some crazy stuff to try and support their viewpoints - and there's always going to be the opposite stigma for you with "the WP bias" but I think it might be worth exploring and breaking down for some.
30-40 hours is surprising longevity to me, guess I don't appreciate what it's like to be new any more.

I feel that I can offer myself up as a truely new player that aimed for raids. Just Yesterday I completed my first raid and I have 600 hours played over 150 days. I have never played a 3D MMO before GW2. This time includes learning nearly everything there is to know about the game. I have 3 characters with fully ascended gear. This is mainly becuase my first goal was to achieve master tier fractals and multiclass handling, which I did. Raids were always this huge scary thing just behind what was to me the hardest content in the game (CM fractals) . The image of raids is just so intimidating at first that it seemed impossible to get near it. A boss so hard that you need 10 people to take it on!? And on top of that they need to be near perfect players with good rotations. Of course thats just what i saw on the outside. I learned that with a mix and mash group of noobs with no foods or utilities and a squad dps of 50k I could defeat Carin, Vale Guardian, Samarog, and the Keep Construct. Of course I know these are among the easiest ones, but harder bosses will be accompanied by better players. Just as I found out when I started fractals :)

Thank you for the video. It is a fresh and useful insight for me which is new to GW2, you took the time to explain the set up of your experiment and that's awesome. Perfect to me!

The 02Hero series was really helpful to watch, not only does it teach new players that Raiding status isn't that hard to reach as people may think, even for established non-raiders, it shows that raids and even LFG may not be that bad, and if ur patient and have a competent group you can probably progress through the raids. I personally started raiding while this series was like halfway, and today I have completed 3 of the 4 raids and I do casual raid boss kills every week, thanks to this series showing me that raids aren't that hard and unachievable. Thank you WP for ur informative and helpful series, was really fun to watch.
Bye Mcpoopbutt, you did well.

the only thing hard thing in raiding, is learning the complex mechanics. once you pass that hurdle it's fairly easy.

Good video. Glad you did your best to make it more difficult on yourself as well.

Disagree with you on this though. Dps meters are actually showing the opposite: they aren't as good as most people think on a lot of bosses. Thief may be better for the leveling up process, but power engi will be better in raids for new players. If you don't do dps, go Druid. Easy to hear and easy to play in the double Druid meta.

This was really informative and as balanced as it could be considering your limitations.

I haven't played much since launch. While I'm not interested in raiding, I have been looking for insights on how to handle PvE. Even with the lvl 80 gear I got from the boost I find myself woefully underpowered. So this was good for info on the changes since I played last.

I'm so happy you made this :) I've left my fair share of sour comments because I'm a casual by virtue of being a father. It seems my preconceived notions from WoW and similar grinders were completely wrong.

I like being proven wrong because I like being better and in this case ... I like being better at my favourite game. Well done WP. Extremely important.
