Please Be My Strength
Gungor Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I've tried to stand my ground
I've tried to understand
But I can't seem to find my faith again
Like water on the sand
Or grasping at the wind
I keep on falling short

So please be my strength
Please be my strength
'cause I don't have any more
I don't have any more

I'm looking for a place
Where I can plant my faith
One thing I know for sure
I cannot create it
And I cannot sustain it
It's your love that's keeping me

Please be my strength
Please be my strength
I don't have any more
I don't have any more

And at my final breath
I hope that I can say
I fought the good fight of faith
I pray your glory shine
In this doubting heart of mine
And all would know that you

You are my strength
You are my strength
You and you alone
You keep bringing me back home
Oh, You are my strength
You are my strength
You and you alone
Keep bringing me back home

It's you and you alone
Bringing me back home

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Gungor's song "Please Be My Strength" speak to the experience of feeling lost and unable to hold onto one's faith. The first verse describes the struggle to maintain faith in the face of doubts and challenges. The singer compares their attempts to stand firm to water falling on the sand, symbolizing the way their efforts seem to slip away without making an impact. They appeal to a higher power to be their strength, acknowledging that they cannot create or sustain their faith on their own.

The second verse continues this theme, with the singer searching for a place to "plant" their faith. Again, they recognize that it is not something they can achieve alone. The line "It's your love that's keeping me" underscores the belief that God's love is the foundation upon which faith rests.

The final verse takes a more hopeful turn, expressing a wish to be able to look back on a life lived in pursuit of faith. The refrain "You are my strength, you and you alone, keep bringing me back home" reinforces the idea that faith is a journey, with moments of doubt and uncertainty, but ultimately grounded in a relationship with a higher power.

Overall, the song is a heartfelt expression of the struggle to maintain faith and the hope that a greater power will provide strength and guidance.

Faith comes through knowledge. Not your ordinary book knowledge, but knowledge through experiencing God and reading His Word. I'm a Christian and I doubt, even his existence. This song helps me to remember the things God has done for me in my life. The times where he revealed his presence to me and I felt him inside of me. There are no scientific explanations to those experiences I have gone through. It's purely the work of my Father.

Revelation is what we need, knowledge is just that but revelation is God's words alive in us. We have a soul and we have a spirit. Our soul is were our emotions resides, our thoughts our logic, but our spirit which starts living when we accept Jesus, that is were God speaks to us, were we receive revelation and God's peace. The more you feed your spirit the stronger it gets, but our natural self , our soul and body don't want our spirit to be alive, because we come from an earthly sinful natural. But God starts a process in us when we surrender to Him. It's long but it's worth it.

God, keep the Gungors strong and help them to grow in their faith. Let your spirit dwell in them.

Didn't happen brother. But God knows they brought hope to a lot of us. And that's what counts. I prefer Gungor over Hillsong and everything
