Bohemian Rhapsody
Guns N' Roses Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Mama just killed a man, Put a gun against his head,
pulled my trigger, now he's dead.
Mama, life had just begun,
But now I've gone and thrown it all away.
Mama, ooh, Didn't mean to make you cry,
If I'm not back again this time tomorrow,
carry on, carry on as if nothing really matters.
Too late, my time has come,
Sends shivers down my spine, body's aching all the time.
Goodbye, ev'rybody, I've got to go,
Gotta leave you all behind and face the truth.
Mama, ooh, I don't want to die,
I sometimes wish I'd never been born at all.

I see a little silhouetto of a man,
Scaramouche, Scaramouche, will you do the Fandango.
Thunderbolt and lightning, very, very fright'ning me.
(Galileo.) Galileo. (Galileo.) Galileo, Galileo figaro
Magnifico. I'm just a poor boy and nobody loves me.
He's just a poor boy from a poor family,
Spare him his life from this monstrosity.
Easy come, easy go, will you let me go.
Bismillah! No, we will not let you go.
(Let him go!) Bismillah! We will not let you go.
(Let him go!) Bismillah! We will not let you go.
(Let me go.) Will not let you go.
(Let me go.) Will not let you go. (Let me go.) Ah.
No, no, no, no, no, no, no.
(Oh mama mia, mama mia.) Mama mia, let me go.
Beelzebub has a devil put aside for me, for me, for me.

So you think you can stone me and spit in my eye.
So you think you can love me and leave me to die.
Oh, baby, can't do this to me, baby,
Just gotta get out, just gotta get right outta here.

Nothing really matters, Anyone can see,
Nothing really matters,
Nothing really matters to me.

Any way the wind blows.

Overall Meaning

This song has been popularized by Queen, but Guns N' Roses did a cover of it during their Use Your Illusion Tour. It is a song that has different interpretations in terms of its meaning. Some of its lines are quoted in pop culture and referenced in several films. The song is divided into different parts with distinct melodies, which makes it a unique type of rock song.

The first lines of the song depict the singer's confession that he has killed a man. Despite being afraid of the consequences of his actions and the thought of leaving his mother behind, he faces what he has done. The character is portrayed as regretful about the consequences of his actions which involve taking someone's life. The second stanza highlights that his fate is sealed and he has to leave everything behind, including his mother. He does not want to die, yet he accepts that it is part of the consequences of his choices.

The third part introduces a new character; Scaramouche, who is daring and dances with no fear. The scene appears to be a form of escapism from the harsh reality of the singer's situation. Soon, the scene changes, and the lyrics shift to a confrontation between two parties, one of whom is a poor boy begging for mercy from his oppressor. The fourth stanza shows that the situation is dire as the prisoner is ridiculed and faces torment with the oppressor refusing to release him. The fifth part is a plea that seems to be directed at someone or something other than the oppressor.

*cringe as fuck

@joelposner535

The greatest entrance in the history of Rock & Roll, absolutely mesmerizing. But sadly Rose had trouble being in sync with the pace of the song. Even so, it was a great moment worth celebrating.

@MissingBoco5

Just take a minute to remember just how amazing Axl Rose’s voice was in his prime. Absolutely, perfectly in key.
