It's Alright
Guns N' Roses Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Told you once about your friends
And neighbors
They were always seeking
But they'll never find it

It's alright, it's alright
Where to go and where to see
It's always been this way
And it can never be

It's alright, it's alright
Give it all and ask for no return
And very soon you'll see
And you'll begin to learn

That's it's alright, it's alright
Don't you know that it's so good for you
You can be making love and
See it all go through

But it's alright, it's alright
Told you once about your friends
And neighbors
They were always seeking

But they'll never find it
It's alright, it's alright

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "It's Alright" by Guns N' Roses convey a message of acceptance towards the fact that the pursuit of happiness is an endless and pointless endeavor. The singer starts by reminding the listener of a previous conversation, where he warned them about their friends and neighbors, who are constantly searching for something, but will never find it. The repetition of "it's alright" throughout the song implies that there is nothing wrong with this situation, and that it's just the way things are. The lyrics also suggest that instead of relentlessly pursuing happiness, one should give all of themselves without asking for anything in return. Eventually, the person will see and learn that this altruistic behavior is "so good" for them.

The song's lyrics can be interpreted as a commentary on the modern society's obsession with material wealth and consumer culture. The "something" that people are looking for could be seen as the ultimate goal of attaining more and more possessions, fame or success. Guns N' Roses, however, argue that such a goal is unattainable and ultimately meaningless. Additionally, the song may be encouraging listeners to embrace a more selfless and compassionate outlook on life, where giving to others is the ultimate reward.

This just shows that axl is a human. You can hear it coming out of him. I think all the hate he gets is pathetic. Most of the people who speak badly of him were once big fans, angry that he made mistakes. Hes a changed man now, and GNR is back, better than ever, poised to save rock n roll for the second time. Mark my words. And at the helm, we have this genius, Axl Rose. Long live GNR

He sounds like Micky Mouse. How is that better than ever?

@nuke2625

I think he's real. Most Celebs have dual personalities. A public personality and a real one. I'm not saying he gets a pass for doing anything he wants.

Pretty awesome to cover a Bill Ward sung Sabbath tune. I bet most ppl at this show didn't know it was a Black Sabbath tune. Axl sounds great here.
