Lifesaver
Guru Lyrics

[Guru]
Mmm is this really the end or is it a new beginning?
A new reality..
Chorus: Guru + Baybe (repeat 2X)
So many misconceptions (don't be misled)
So many evil deceptions (oh I am)
I've come to give direction
For I am the lifesaver (the life)
Scooby doo wah scooby doo wee
Like a jazz player I improvise wisely
Free with the style, I flow like the Nile
but remember, don't mistake the smile
Deep rooted is my rhymin
Like ancient African griots, precise is my timing
But let me get to the essence of what I'm sayin here
Too many blood red streets with bodies layin there
The systematic fanatics are at it again
Tryin to kill me and all of us my friend
But don't bend to the mental strain
Against all odds, we must strive for essential gains
Be true to the life the Lord gave ya
And that's a message from the lifesaver
The lifesaver..
Chorus
[Baybe]
Oh I am, the life (I.. am the lifesaver)
I am, the life.. yeah
[Guru]
It takes a more intelligent man to squash a fight
than to set one off, knowledge I'll let some off
Cause nowadays, everybody's a killer
And as for me, no other MC is iller
but still a thorn scrapes my heart
when I see another life that's been torn apart
over nonsense, no law, no order, it's evidence
that the money only takes precedence
Cause everybody wants power
While the innocent are born or die, during every hour
I scowl as I look upon evil
but I must have the strength, to spark awareness in my people
And we will learn to respect our neighbors
Another message from the lifesaver
The lifesaver..
Chorus
[Guru]
People talk about the Armaggedeon
And nowadays everyone you know is packin lead son
Each day's another test
Aiyyo I better do my best, cause a lot's ridin on my chest
So when I lead you to the water, you best know
how to swim across, so you can reach the border
It's international, the message and the flavor
So here's some more important words from the lifesaver
The lifesaver.. (I am the life)
The lifesaver..

1. (July 17, 1961 – April 19, 2010) was one half of the legendary hip hop duo Gang Starr and an accomplished solo artist. Guru, an acronym for Gifted Unlimited Rhymes Universal, originally began his hip hop career in Boston but due to lack of local support moved to New York where Gang Starr then blew up. Guru was well known for his smooth voice; socially conscious and hardcore lyrics; and an effortless, confident delivery.
Founded in 1987, Gang Starr built a sizable following in the early 90's, releasing classic albums like Step in the Arena (1991) and Daily Operation (1992). Guru's lyrical style was based on battle rhymes delivered smoothly, modestly, and with sly wit; he typically avoided using overwhelming charisma, focusing instead on his rhyming ability. Over the years he even took on younger rappers, including Jeru the Damaja, as proteges. He is credited, along with DJ Premier, for the executive production of Jeru's debut, The Sun Rises in the East (1994).
In 1993, he released his first solo album, Jazzmatazz, Vol. 1. The album featured collaborations with Donald Byrd, N'Dea Davenport, Dee C. Lee, and Roy Ayers, whilst his second LP, Jazzmatazz, Vol. 2: The New Reality, featured Ramsey Lewis, Branford Marsalis, and Jamiroquai. The Jazzmatazz albums have been met with mixed reviews, Guru continued with Jazzmatazz, Vol. 3: Streetsoul (2000) and Baldhead Slick & Da Click (2001).
Moreover, recent Gang Starr albums have continued to garner Guru critical acclaim. Prominent Boston underground rapper Mr. Lif frequently cites Guru as a major stylistic influence; he appears as a guest with Lif on the Perceptionists' debut album, Black Dialogue (2005).
Besides Gang Starr, his Jazzmatazz and solo albums, Guru collaborated with countless artists since the early 90s. Not only in Hip-Hop, but also with artists from various genres such as pop, electronica/dance, acid jazz, and even brass bands.
His "first proper solo album", in his own words, was Version 7.0: The Street Scriptures (2005), released with the help of producer and new backup MC/producer Solar. The album reached #1 on the college hip-hop charts, but was a failure with both fans and critics. It still managed to sell relatively well for an independent release.
Guru's latest project is the fourth installment in the Jazzmatazz series, entirely produced by Solar. It was released in early June 2007 and received good reviews and comments from fans.
In 2007 Guru was ranked at 45 for the Top 50 MCs of our time: 1987-2007
On February 28th 2010, Guru suffered a severe heart attack and was in a coma. He passed away on April 19, 2010 at the age of 49 after a long battle with cancer.
2. Guru also refers to a Ghanaian hip-hop artist known for his single "LaPaz Toyota" and the song "Akayida" - basis for a azonto dance craze

On me regarde, me met en garde, à vue
Certains cafardent, d'autres bavardent, et tuent
Dédicace à tout quartier, toute cité, aux pas de chance
À ceux qui sont tombés mais pas pour la France
Pays trop bidon, vivement Armageddon
J'ai raison, priant Jéhovah pour mon pardon
Car si un flic me juge je le droite
Enfonçant mon doigt dans son oeil et le fond de son cerveau je gratte

Boy, angry, growing up in violence and piss
The word peace is for those who perish
Every day, around, in the world and its tours
In prison or back in the ovens
And cops make their rounds, the cities rumble
Earth heats mountain peaks melt
Blond it goes black it breaks
This is my uniform in a war between races
They look at me, put me on guard, in jail
Some talk, others gossip, and kill
Dedication to any neighborhood, any city, with no luck
To those who fell but not for France
sucker country, can't wait for Armageddon
I am sane, praying to Jehovah for my forgiveness
Because if a cop judges me I knock him
Pushing my finger into his eye and in the bottom of his brain I scratch
