Airport Song
Guster Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Glad you made it
Welcome to the farm
Who's your daddy?
I'm your daddy now
I'm here seeking only what I need
In your mind is where I'll plant my seed
It's for sure
Let me keep you in this place
You'll be better off this way
I will keep you warm and safe
You'll be better off this way
You'll learn to love the price you pay
Trust me dear you're better off this way

Put to bed the son and sister moon
I'll be hiding in your dirty room
I'll go there seeking only what I need
La di da will stay there till we bleed
It's for sure

Let me keep you in this place
You'll be better off this way
I will keep you warm and safe
You'll be better off this way
Will not wake you from your sleep
Leave you wandering counting sheep
No more saddened sunshine days
Trust me dear you're better off this way

You'll be selling books at the airport

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Guster's "Airport Song" reflect a sense of control and manipulation in a relationship. The opening lines of "Glad you made it, welcome to the farm, who's your daddy? I'm your daddy now" suggest a power dynamic in which the singer is asserting his dominance over the other person. The "farm" represents a sense of confinement and control, where the singer will "keep you warm and safe" as long as you stay in his "place."

The lyrics continue to paint a picture of manipulation, as the singer seeks to "plant [his] seed" and keep the other person in a state of dependence. He promises to teach them to "love the price you pay" in exchange for his protection. The line "put to bed the son and sister moon, I'll be hiding in your dirty room" implies a sense of darkness and secrecy, where the singer will go to great lengths to maintain the power dynamic he has established.

In the final verse, the singer promises to keep the other person in a state of ignorance and dependence - "will not wake you from your sleep, leave you wandering counting sheep, no more saddened sunshine days." The overall message of the song is a warning about manipulation and control, and the unhealthy dynamic that can result from it.

I've trying to remember this band, this song for 3 weeks. I got hit by a car, and lost my memory. I've been getting little snips of things periodically.

I hope you're doing better.

I had a traumatic brain injury, also from a car accident and Loin's Mane Mushroom and Ginkgo really help.

Heard this song on Q101 in Chicago at 18 and fell in love with them. Still feel the same way 26 years later.

2:15 That just cracks me up. I imagine that the other two are cool, calculated manipulators... and then their f***boy intern ruins it and cartwheels away. XD

@TheWizardYeof

Saw Guster last Friday at the State Theater in Portland, Maine. At the end of this song when the ping-pong sound plays, they had the audience throw ping-pong balls they could purchase that they wrote song requests on onto the stage. We didn’t buy any, but two landed by my feet, so I was able to throw a couple.
