The band consists of Adam Gardner and Ryan Miller on guitar and vocals and Brian Rosenworcel on percussion. Multi-instrumentalist and backup vocalist Joe Pisapia played with the band from 2003-2010. Luke Reynolds took Pisapia's place to tour with the band for their 2010 album, Easy Wonderful, and has remained with the band since. The band is noted for its catchy, poppy melodies, and the distinctive hand-drumming on percussion. They are also known for their humor, including a joke album released in 2003, The Meowstro Sings: Guster's Keep It Together, wherein the lyrics are replaced with (off-melody) meowing.
The band has released eight studio albums which are, in chronological order, Parachute, Goldfly, Lost and Gone Forever, Keep It Together, Ganging Up On the Sun, Easy Wonderful, Evermotion, and their most recent, Look Alive, which was released on January 18th, 2019. In addition, they have released a total of eleven live albums, spanning the years 2003-2015.
Demons
Guster Lyrics

My eyes don't move a blink
Cause it's easier sometimes not to be sincere
Somehow I make you believe
Believe
When I speak I cross my fingers
Will you know you've been deceived?
A demon cannot be hurt
Honest is easy
Fiction is where genius lies
Cause it's easier sometimes
Not to be involved
Somehow I make you believe
Believe
When I speak I cross my fingers
Will you know you've been deceived?
I find a need to be the demon
A demon cannot be hurt
When I speak I cross my fingers
Will you know you've been deceived?
I find a need to be the demon
A demon cannot be hurt
When I speak I cross my fingers
Will you know you've been deceived?
I find a need to be the demon
A demon cannot be hurt
The powerful lyrics of Guster's Demons suggest an internal struggle between truth and deception. The first line, "My words confuse you," demonstrates a disconnect between the singer and listener. This could be due to the singer's struggle with honesty, as portrayed in the line "Cause it's easier sometimes not to be sincere." The singer is torn between wanting to be truthful and wanting to avoid the repercussions of telling the truth. Despite this, the singer is still able to make the listener believe them, thus exposing their internal demon.
The chorus of the song, "When I speak I cross my fingers, will you know you've been deceived?", adds to the complexity of the situation. The singer is actively deceiving the listener, but also seems to want to be caught in the act. The lines "I find a need to be the demon, a demon cannot be hurt," hint at the singer's desire to protect themselves by being seen as a negative force, rather than a vulnerable human being. The repetition of the chorus at the end of the song emphasizes the internal battle the singer is facing, and the desperation for someone to notice and reach out to them.
Overall, Guster's Demons is a poignant exploration of the struggle between honesty and deception, and the desire to protect oneself from vulnerability.
