Formed in Harlem, New York in 1987 by young musician/record producer Teddy Riley, the original members of Guy included Riley and R&B singer-songwriters Aaron Hall and Timmy Gatling, who were students at HBCU Virginia State 1988. Gatling left after the first album was done and was quickly replaced by Aaron's younger brother Damian. Upon its release, the album went platinum three times over and included classics like "Groove Me", "Teddy's Jam," "I Like", "Piece of My Love" and "Merry-Go-Round of Love". That first album quickly established the group and Riley as musical forces.
After producing music for other artists other than his group, Riley returned to the group after they opened for New Edition and released their second album, The Future, in 1990. The songs "I Wanna Get Wit U" and "Let's Chill" gave them a broader, mainstream fan base. However, as soon as The Future's success had dried up, Guy would be album-less for much of the 1990s. In the meantime, Riley went on to produce for artists such as Heavy D and Michael Jackson, and formed another R&B group named Blackstreet. Both Aaron and his brother Damian recorded solo albums, Aaron being a major influence on the style of R'n'b singer R. Kelly.
In 2000, Riley and the Hall brothers reunited to release their first album in nine years titled Guy III. The album featured the modest hit "Dancin'", but their label MCA Records had a hard time promoting it. As quickly as it was released, it quickly dropped from the public radar. Since then, Guy has been relatively quiet, but rumors of working on a new album still linger.
In 2006 They were part of New Jack Reunion Tour line up, along with Blackstreet and New Edition.

I can take you shopping down or uptown baby
Take you to a place you ain't been a-round baby
Put you in a gown and now you astound lady
Got them treating you like you wear a crown lady
I'm your golden ticket like your nickname's Charlie
Riding in a whip and you can hit that Marley
Honolulu waving I admit that's gnarly
Got your ex-Ken's tryna get back Barbie
Lips that's charming, real maturing
I don't know how you do it but it's alluring
We can spend an evening for just exploring
I don't see an end in sight cuz it's just starting

(Sheeee)
You blow me out with them head games like Tetris
Paralyze with Medusa eyes you neutralize and I'm breathless
Restless cuz I'm stuck on your waistline to your necklace
That voodoo that you do too got Tutankhamen hexes
Lock me up in your nexus, starving me until breakfast
Something, something I forgot cuz you made me forget this
Temptress, you take my air like asbestos
I'm tryna grab 2 handfuls, you got me ambidextrous
You work it out for a long time, slow moves and strong grinds
I want you all to myself, I need this whole room quarantined
Can't find you in order lines, a specialty when I order mines
Let's go across these borderlines and speak to me in foreign lines

In Guy's song "Diamonds," the singer is telling his significant other that he is willing to take her on a shopping spree and show her new ways of life. He is also telling her that she is a gem and the center of his universe. The song discusses how the singer is willing to spoil his partner and how he is constantly mesmerized by her.
The first verse starts with him telling her that he is willing to take her shopping in either the downtown or uptown area, where he can show her things she has never seen before. Then, he describes how he dresses her in a gown and how everyone starts to notice her beauty. He compares himself to her golden ticket and her personal chauffeur by describing how he drives her around in his car like they're in a fancy parade. He continues to describe how he's a lucky guy to have her because she attracts attention from everywhere they go.
In the second verse, Guy continues to express his love for her by comparing her mystical, hypnotic charm to the Greek goddess Medusa. He describes her ability to paralyze him and how she's the center of his attention. He then goes on to explain how she makes him feel captive with every touch as if she has put a spell on him. He describes the feeling of being trapped in time, not wanting anyone else, and he fantasizes about having her all to himself. The song continues with him declaring his love and loyalty for her.
