Formed in Harlem, New York in 1987 by young musician/record producer Teddy Riley, the original members of Guy included Riley and R&B singer-songwriters Aaron Hall and Timmy Gatling, who were students at HBCU Virginia State 1988. Gatling left after the first album was done and was quickly replaced by Aaron's younger brother Damian. Upon its release, the album went platinum three times over and included classics like "Groove Me", "Teddy's Jam," "I Like", "Piece of My Love" and "Merry-Go-Round of Love". That first album quickly established the group and Riley as musical forces.
After producing music for other artists other than his group, Riley returned to the group after they opened for New Edition and released their second album, The Future, in 1990. The songs "I Wanna Get Wit U" and "Let's Chill" gave them a broader, mainstream fan base. However, as soon as The Future's success had dried up, Guy would be album-less for much of the 1990s. In the meantime, Riley went on to produce for artists such as Heavy D and Michael Jackson, and formed another R&B group named Blackstreet. Both Aaron and his brother Damian recorded solo albums, Aaron being a major influence on the style of R'n'b singer R. Kelly.
In 2000, Riley and the Hall brothers reunited to release their first album in nine years titled Guy III. The album featured the modest hit "Dancin'", but their label MCA Records had a hard time promoting it. As quickly as it was released, it quickly dropped from the public radar. Since then, Guy has been relatively quiet, but rumors of working on a new album still linger.
In 2006 They were part of New Jack Reunion Tour line up, along with Blackstreet and New Edition.

y'all thought we was jokin', huh?
Beat is bomp
That's right, yeah
That beat is bomp, bomp bomp
Bomp bomp, yeah, uh huh
It's the G, yo
Uh huh, uh
[Brett]
Aye yo, everybody
Can I have your attention
I got something to say
y'all lame-ass small-change cats
Hunt's y'all like prey
Bring it to ya raw, no-cut, flow nuts like cashews
And yo' comments, keep 'em to yourself
Nobody asked you
If I had to I'd throw something hot at you
That'll leave you cold
c'mon dog, that ain't platinum
You dipped it in white gold
Come between anything I love
Surely you stop breathin'
And y'all thought Guy was out the game
But sorry, you're not leavin'
You won't believe me until you see my name
In a star, carved in pavement
y'all think this hard, well wait 'till I go up in the basement
I'mma tell you this once, fuck saying it twice
I inhale cold, exhale blowin', turn it to ice
Your time short, honestly I'm tired of hearing y'all frontin'
Guy-2K featuring Brett watch out, we're comin'
[Teddy] Yeah yeah yeah, uh huh
[Guy]
We got it locked
And we got the beats that'll rock, you're not
You better be careful not to blow your spot
And you better work hard, it's gonna take a lot
'cause we comin'
We're from the streets, from the heart of the woods
Straight to the beach, talk shit
Nigga better watch your speech
Or get yo' ass blown straight off your feet
'cause we're comin'
We're comin'
Competition is not, all you want to-be cats get to runnin'
Nigga I'm slick wit it pouring shit hot one drop
And blow your spot
Do you think you can beat me
You counterfeit, and you can't handle the way
Now you want to drop a remix, it's a little too late
Try'na cop my style, it won't work, stupid nigga
Put down the mic before you get your shit bent up
[Guy]
We got it locked
And we got the beats that'll rock, you're not
You better be careful not to blow your spot
And you better work hard, it's gonna take a lot
'cause we comin'
We're from the streets, from the heart of the woods
Straight to the beach, talk shit
Nigga better watch your speech
Or get yo' ass blown straight off your feet
'cause we're comin'
We're back on top, you better run for cover
'cause we can't be stopped
Keep poppin' shit money, it just might get dropped
'cause you didn't know we got that shit on lock
Keep on, nigga we comin'
So don't think shit sweet
I'm bout to drop another million by the end of the week
Ya can't stop it, might as well run and cop it
You bitch ass niggas can't flock it, we...
[Guy]
We got it locked
And we got the beats that'll rock, you're not
You better be careful not to blow your spot
And you better work hard, it's gonna take a lot
'cause we comin'

It was y'all who thought this shit was a joke
I wasn't lying
The song "We're Comin" by Guy is a bold declaration of their return to the music scene after a hiatus. The lyrics are confident and assertive, with each member of the group taking turns to boast about their talents and dismiss any potential competition. The chorus repeats the phrase "we're comin'" to emphasize that they are back and ready to take on the music industry once again.
Brett opens the song by addressing their critics and warning them that they are not to be underestimated. He delivers his rhymes with a hard-hitting flow, referencing his platinum status and his willingness to take on anyone who tries to stand in his way. Guy's lead singer, Guy, takes over in the second verse and continues the theme of the group's dominance. He warns his detractors that they better run for cover because he and his crew are unstoppable. Teddy Riley pops in throughout the song to offer vocal support and confirm that their return is no joke.
The lyrics of "We're Comin" are typical of the bravado found in many rap and hip-hop songs, but they are significant for their context. Guy's first album, released in 1988, was a smash hit that helped bring the New Jack Swing sound to prominence. However, after a few more albums, the group went on hiatus, with members pursuing other projects. "We're Comin" was released in 1999, almost a decade after their last album, and signaled that the group was coming back into the spotlight. In that sense, the lyrics reflect a sense of excitement and anticipation for their fans, who were eager to see the group reclaim its throne.
Overall, "We're Comin" is a powerful statement of Guy's intentions and sets the tone for their comeback. It's a classic example of a musical group coming back with a vengeance, ready to take on the world once again.
