Influences include The Incredible String Band, Nick Drake, Dolly Parton, The Moore Brothers, Bob Dylan and Syd Barrett. Gwendolyn writes songs that inspire the mystery inside. Drawing from nature and a sense of spiritual responsibility, her lyrics form images that will inevitably lead you through that open-ended challenge: a search for Self. Gwendolyn's compositions push the boundaries of expected time changes and ordinary song structure, yet a welcome familiarity remains. Addressing divergent topics that include insects, sexuality, politics and heartbreak, Gwendolyn presents life as she sees it and her listeners are presented with a surprise, and ultimately, a treasure. Her debut ULTRASOUNDS (Whispersquish, 2000) features songs recorded between 1995-1999, including the acclaimed childlike anthem, "Freedom of the Heart (Ooodily, Ooodily)," heard repeatedly in the cult film CHUCK & BUCK starring Mike White (Artisan, 2000). Shortly after its release, Gwendolyn recruited friends whose instruments naturally lend themselves to her slightly left-of-center music. Musician, Douglas Lee (Uva Ursi) returned home from living in New Orleans to build a glass harmonica - 26 different shaped wine glasses sonically tuned. Lee then added the saw and banjo to his repertoire. Jazz junkie Robert Petersen, returned from Berkeley to contribute his warm upright bass. Rounding out the ensemble, Brandon Jay, aka Quazar (Quazar and the Bamboozled), acquired pots, pans, water bottles, gadgets and gizmos to form what's known as his "drum set." Gwendolyn decided to capture their harmonic chemistry live in the studio. She asked veteran players Smokey Hormel (Beck) and Ralph Carney (Tom Waits) to add their talent to the mix. The result is DEW (Whispersquish, 2003). In 2002, producer Ben Vaughn (Ween, Arthur Alexander) flew Gwendolyn to Scotland to create a more traditional sounding folk album with the local musicians there. After a long spell in the womb, LOWER MILL ROAD, named after the studio's whereabouts, enjoyed its release in August 2007 (Whispersquish). You can hear Gwendolyn's signature sound on Season 2 & 3 of Showtime's hit comedy WEEDS. Together, with her partner Brandon Jay, she works to create transitional cues and underscore for the show. "The Happy Clappy Birthday Song" is posted here especially for fans of the show. Gwendolyn has also released a number of albums for preschoolers under the influence of her inner child: GWENDOLYN AND THE GOOD TIME GANG. Adorning her hair with ribbons and draped in unusual and colorful vintage gowns, Gwendolyn is not your average indie rocker playing local rock clubs. The LA Weekly described her performance, "like a Renaissance Fair being held on Mars" and awarded her Best New Genre/Uncatergorizable Artist of 2003 at the LA Music Awards. Omg!! Ive met this family! I use to be a waitress at a too jays in orlando. I did my best not to judge them when I saw the man in a dress or when they corrected me for using gendered pronouns for their kids. The thing is....the man in the dress had terrible hygiene....everyone could smell them.
I really think kids don't have the experience or capacity to make certain choices. I'd be worried about these kids education having some major holes. They need guidance not choices. They should be in school because it doesn't seem like the parents know how to teach properly. I think socialization is also going to be messed up for them staying home with three people who live vastly differently than society. It must be incredibly confusing. These people need therapy.

I have an enby friend, they came out at thirteen years old. They said that their parents kind of knew that they were different from the girls when they were younger. Their parents didn't raise them genderless or anything, but they did tell them about non binary people and trans people. To be honest, I think that their parents raised them well and you don't have to do all of this to be a good parent. Personally, I wouldn't raise my kids like this and I'm worried if it could have bad effects on kids, but I'm not sure yet.

As a general observation, I find it interesting that three parents who identify as other gendres than what they were born with, throughout the interview, present very normative gender structures for the gender they perceive themself to be. That is, the male family figure, head of the household, speaks more than thr submissive wife figures, who support the male rearing the children, his name sakes (metaphorically). Actually the 1-2 hrs of academic learning then the rest doing activities is 1000% normal for homeschooling. They get 1 on 1 attention and alot of learning takes place away from a sit down table. You don't need as much time.when it's just you and a.child.
This is consistent with the standards of homeschooling. It's not that they don't learn for more time than that but rather that things like sports, cooking, swimming, exploring etc are used as part of the learning.
She seems extreeeemely well spoken for her age I would say as many kids who are homeschooling WELL it is a huuuge benifit academically.

This is how the world should be and if everyone grew up like this and we didn't fight over our differences, any issues these people face would be eradicated and then children would get to grow up with representation, with clothing and toys and media that represents them. someone's pronouns and gender and as a whole how they live their life is not a problem and if you think it is then you are the one making it a problem. as someone who was "homeschooled", (if you could've even called it that) similar to the way these poor children were:

my mom didn't want to put me and my sister into a regular public school, for ridiculous reasons, she wanted to teach us by herself, and let us " naturally" learn things. we'd used a few programs before, but none of them ever stuck. we were both very behind in math, history, science, and were bad at socializing (me more than my sister.)

it was a horrible experience, and that may be because my family was very abusive and distant, too, and I was very behind and unprepared for life.

I pray for these children and hope they can lead better lives than their "parents" are setting of for them.

I let my one kids decide if and when they want to drive a car. I just hand them/her/him/those the car keys and say " Have at it." Thus far they haven't been able to reach the accelerator pedal, but us group of parents, just me mine we are so proud of all of ya'll. I really think them are going to make a really great driving team when they are driving solo in the carpool lane. I agree with this family. I love that they don't choose there kids gender, and that the kids can decide it them self. I find what they are doing is really meaningful and out right the best thing anyone can do. I am growing up in a homophobic and transphobic household and I am pansexual and non binary, and I can't tell my family that I am non binary without risking me being kicked out of the house. Do you know how many times people have committed suicide because of those reasons, over 70% of suicide is people that identify in the LGBTQ+ community. And I personally know how it feels like having suicidal thoughts, because I get them a lot. If my family excepted who I am I would have no problems.
