The original GCH began playing birthday parties, clubs, and festivals which eventually led to numerous larger venues throughout the northeast, including four years on Warped Tour (2003, 2004, 2006, 2008). During this time, GCH released four self-produced CDs: "Hed Candy" (1999), "Greasy Kids Stuff" (2000), "For the Kids" (2001) and "Papercut Chronicles EP" (2004).
"As cruel as School Children" was released on July 25, 2006. A second version of the album, released on November 4, 2006 additionally contains the single "Cupid's Chokehold"
After the release of "For the Kids", lead singer Travis McCoy won MTV's Direct Effect MC Battle and as a prize, he appeared in Styles P's video "Daddy Get That Cash".
The current configuration of GCH formed as guitarist Disashi Lumumba-Kasongo joined in late 2004, with bassist Eric Roberts joining in mid 2005.
After hearing the song "Taxi Driver", Patrick Stump of Fall Out Boy invited the band to one of his shows. Gym Class Heroes then went on to join Pete Wentz's label, Decaydance Records, an imprint of Fueled by Ramen. Travis later said that Stump's support, coupled with the label's touring ethos and family atmosphere, led the band to signing with Decaydance/Fueled by Ramen.
Gym Class Heroes appeared on the Warped Tour in the summer of 2005 and 2006. The band completed their leg of a tour with The All-American Rejects on Nov. 29 in Las Vegas.
Their recent hit "Clothes Off" reached the No# 3 spot in the uk top 40 charts.
Lead singer Travis McCoy is currently working on a side project called Tequila Mockingbird with Nick Scimeca and is due out sometime early next year.

Hi, have you ever wondered what it would be like to listen to some music?
Well this is your big chance.
With a shadowy promenade of effervescence,
Yet slows down the bottom of misty mountains of darkness.
Like a flirtatious flounder upon a non-reflecting mirror.
God, what is this opaque window of comfort, that we cannot overcome?
It is a manifestation of love.
It a forest of emptiness and it is an ocean with no water except where that which fills it.
So as you listen to this masterpiece release yourself from the prison of captivity and let your soul free.
Because only a free soul can be captured by greedy soul thieves.
Who will have sold it to Leprechaun gold miners.
But it is only when your soul is taken away, that you can take it back.
And this my friend, does not make any sense whatsoever, or does it, no it does not.
Ladies and Gentlemen I give you "The Papercut Chronicles"
The lyrics to Gym Class Heroes's song "Za Intro" are a unique introduction to the album "The Papercut Chronicles". The lyrics begin with asking if the listener has ever wondered what it would be like to listen to music and then dives into a metaphor describing music as a brochetted butterfly - delicate, yet with a shadowy promenade of effervescence. The lyrics then describe the contrast of the lightness of music with the darkness that can be found in life. The following line adds to the contrast by describing music as a flirtatious flounder upon a non-reflecting mirror.
The song then takes a philosophical turn by discussing the concept of love as an opaque window of comfort and a manifestation of emptiness. The lyrics propose that only when one releases themself from the prison of captivity can they capture their soul from greedy soul thieves who may sell it to Leprechaun gold miners. The song presents an overall theme of freedom and encourages the listener to let their soul free while listening to the album. The final line of the song, "this my friend, does not make any sense whatsoever, or does it, no it does not," adds to the mysterious and thought-provoking nature of the song.
