The sisters grew up in a musical family, and began playing instruments from an early age in the cover band Rockinhaim, fronted by their parents, Moti and Donna. The two elder sisters, Este and Danielle, began performing with the pop group "Valli Girls" in 2005. They released a few songs on soundtrack and compilation albums under that name, but left the group shortly after an appearance at the 2005 Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards. They formed Haim with younger sister Alana in 2007, but did not seriously consider it a professional career for some years. After Danielle became a successful touring guitarist, first with Jenny Lewis and later with Julian Casablancas, Haim reformed as a full-time operation in 2012.
The group's first release, Forever EP (an EP released as a limited-time download), combined with positive reception at the South by Southwest festival, led to a deal with Polydor Records and a management deal with Jay-Z's Roc Nation group in mid-2012. The band began recording material for their first album, Days Are Gone, in sessions between touring dates, including appearances at the Glastonbury Festival. The album charted in the top ten in several countries, including the number-one spot in the UK, and the group had won several "best of" awards by the end of 2013. The group was nominated for Best New Artist at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards. Their second album, Something to Tell You, was released in July 2017. Their third album, titled Women in Music Pt. III, was released on June 26, 2020. The group received nominations at the 63rd Grammy awards for Album of the Year and Best Rock Performance (for "The Steps").
In 2024, the sisters blacked out the band's Instagram, seemingly teasing new music by putting "writing... writing... writing..." in the account's bio.
All That Ever Mattered

When I look in your eyes
This is not what you wanted
You never liked surprises
It's not about them
Or what they think we do
I never cared about what they said
I only cared about me and you
I'm not something that you can buy
You know I've never been that type (fuck no)
Never cared about this life
'Cause if you took it away
All that ever mattered was you, baby
All that ever mattered was you
And I guess you never knew
All that ever mattered was you
So what is it like now that you don't have me?
So what is it like, never mind don't tell me
Do you think about all the things I did to you?
Do you think about how to get me back
When you remember that to me
All that ever mattered was you, baby
All that ever mattered was you, baby
And I guess you never knew
All that ever mattered was you, baby
(Ever mattered was you)
I'm not something that you can buy
You know I've never been that type (fuck no)
Never cared about this life
All that ever mattered was you, babe
All that ever mattered was you, baby
And I guess you never knew
All that ever mattered was you, babe
In the song "All That Ever Mattered" by HAIM, the lyrics express a sense of longing and reflection on a past relationship. The singer starts by looking at the face and eyes of their former partner and realizing that the relationship didn't turn out the way the partner wanted. Surprises were not appreciated, indicating that the partner preferred stability and predictability. However, the singer emphasizes that the opinions of others and societal expectations were irrelevant to them. The only thing that truly mattered was the connection between the singer and their partner.
The lyrics convey a sense of independence, as the singer states that they cannot be bought or defined by material possessions. They have never sought validation from others or cared about living a certain lifestyle. The emphasis lies on the authenticity of their relationship, and if it were taken away, everything else in life would become insignificant. The chorus repeats the sentiment that the partner never fully understood the value and importance they held in the singer's life.
As the song progresses, the singer wonders how their former partner is coping now that they are no longer together. They question if their actions and impact on their partner's life are ever crossed their mind. The lyrics suggest that even though the relationship is over, the singer still occupies their partner's thoughts and influences their desire to win them back. Ultimately, the singer reaffirms that everything in their life and in their partner's life revolved around each other and nothing else truly mattered.
Overall, "All That Ever Mattered" captures the complex emotions of love, independence, and reflection on a past relationship. It emphasizes the significance of a genuine connection and dismisses the importance of societal expectations and material possessions.

I saw other female musicians doing that and I love it, sounds very experimental:
Björk - It's Oh so Quiet
Caroline Polachek in Tears with Caroline Polachek
Chairlift - I Belong in your Arms
Kesha - Kids of the Revolution
