The sisters grew up in a musical family, and began playing instruments from an early age in the cover band Rockinhaim, fronted by their parents, Moti and Donna. The two elder sisters, Este and Danielle, began performing with the pop group "Valli Girls" in 2005. They released a few songs on soundtrack and compilation albums under that name, but left the group shortly after an appearance at the 2005 Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards. They formed Haim with younger sister Alana in 2007, but did not seriously consider it a professional career for some years. After Danielle became a successful touring guitarist, first with Jenny Lewis and later with Julian Casablancas, Haim reformed as a full-time operation in 2012.
The group's first release, Forever (an EP released as a limited-time download), combined with positive reception at the South by Southwest festival, led to a deal with Polydor Records and a management deal with Jay-Z's Roc Nation group in mid-2012. The band began recording material for their first album, Days Are Gone, in sessions between touring dates, including appearances at the Glastonbury Festival. The album charted in the top ten in several countries, including the number-one spot in the UK, and the group had won several "best of" awards by the end of 2013. The group was nominated for Best New Artist at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards. Their second album, Something to Tell You, was released in July 2017. Their third album, titled Women in Music Pt. III, was released on June 26, 2020. The group received nominations at the 63rd Grammy awards for Album of the Year and Best Rock Performance (for "The Steps").

Like I'm standing at the edge, I know
That no one's gonna turn me around
Just one more step, I could let go
Oh and in the middle
I hear the voices and they're calling for me now, I know
That nothing's gonna wake me now
'Cause I'm a slave to the sound
And they're calling
Don't stop, no, I'll never give up
And I'll never look back, just hold your head up
And if it gets rough, it's time to get rough
They keep saying
Don't stop, no one's ever enough
I'll never look back, never give up
And if it gets rough, it's time to get rough
Oh, but now I'm falling, falling, falling
Falling, falling, falling
Falling, falling, falling, falling, oh
Now we're going down
And I can feel the eyes are watching us so closely, oh
I'm trying not to make a sound
'Cause I'll be found out somehow
So keep calling
Don't stop, no, I'll never give up
And I'll never look back, just hold your head up
And if it gets rough, it's time to get rough
They keep saying
Don't stop, no one's ever enough
I'll never look back, never give up
And if it gets rough, it's time to get rough
Oh, but now I'm falling
Into the fire feeling higher than the truth
(I'm falling)
I can feel the heat but I'm not burning
(But now I'm falling)
Fear and desire feed the tired, hungry tooth
(I'm falling)
Feels like I'm falling, yeah
I can hear them calling
(But now I'm falling)
Into the fire feeling higher than the truth
(I'm falling)
I can feel the heat but I'm not burning
(But now I'm falling)
Fear and desire feed the tired, hungry tooth
(I'm falling)
Feels like I'm falling, yeah
I can hear them calling
(But now I'm falling)
Falling, falling, falling
Falling, falling, falling
Falling, falling, falling, oh
And now I'm falling
Falling, falling, falling
Falling, falling, falling
Falling, falling, falling, oh
(But now I'm)
Falling, falling, falling, falling
Fall, yeah
But now I'm
Falling, falling, falling, falling
Fall, yeah
Oh, but now I'm falling
Into the fire feeling higher than the truth
(But now I'm falling)
I can feel the heat but I'm not burning
(I'm falling)
Fear and desire feed the tired, hungry tooth
(But now I'm falling)
Feels like I'm falling, yeah
I can hear them calling for me (falling)
Into the fire feeling higher than the truth
(But now I'm falling)
I can feel the heat but I'm not burning
(I'm falling)
Fear and desire feed the tired, hungry tooth
(But now I'm falling)
It feels like I'm falling, yeah
I can hear them calling for me
Never look back, never give up
Never look back, never give up
Never look back, never give up
I'll never give up
Never give up
Never look back, never give up
Never look back, never give up
Never look back, never give up
I'll never give up
I'll never give up
Never look back, never give up
Never look back, never give up
Never look back, never give up
I'll never give up
I'll never give up
Never look back, never give up
Never look back, never give up
Never look back, never give up
Never give up
Never give up
Never look back, never give up
Never look back, never give up
Never look back, never give up
Never give up
I'll never give up
Never look back, never give up
Never look back, never give up
Never look back, never give up
I'll never give up
I'll never give up
HAIM’s song Falling is about taking risks and encountering the fear of the unknown. The lyrics suggest that the singer is standing on the edge, contemplating the possibility of making a change. They hear the voices calling to them, urging them to take that last step and let go. While the unknown is indeed frightening, the singer is energized by the possibility of what might be on the other side if they do take that step. In the chorus, they hear the call to persevere and never give up. The refrain “But now I’m falling” suggests that the singer takes the plunge and is now truly committed to making the change.
The song’s driving beat and soaring harmonies match the lyrics’ message of determination and triumph. The build-up to the chorus reflects the growing excitement and anticipation of stepping into the unknown. The chorus itself is anthemic, encouraging the listener never to give up even when the going gets tough. The bridge is a triumphant moment, where the singer feels like they’re soaring higher than ever before, despite the fear of the unknown. The repetition of the phrase “never look back, never give up” serves as a reminder to push forward, even when the path seems difficult.
Overall, Falling is a song about overcoming fear and taking risks. Through its energetic beat and uplifting lyrics, it inspires listeners to push past their fears and work towards their goals.

I give a little into the moment
I am surrendering to the present situation
Like I'm standing at the edge, I know
I feel like I'm at the brink of something new
That no one's gonna turn me around
No one can divert me from my path
Just one more step, I could let go
I'm almost at the point where I just let myself fall
Oh and in the middle
In the midst of this moment
I hear the voices and they're calling for me now, I know
I can hear my own doubts and fears urging me to give up
That nothing's gonna wake me now
I'm too focused to be interrupted
'Cause I'm a slave to the sound
I'm completely caught up in this moment and can't escape it
Don't stop, no, I'll never give up
I won't quit or back down
And I'll never look back, just hold your head up
I'll stay strong and face forward
And if it gets rough, it's time to get rough
I'll tough it out if things get difficult
They keep saying
My fears and doubts are still nagging me
Don't stop, no one's ever enough
No matter what I achieve, it never feels like it's enough
Oh, but now I'm falling, falling, falling
I'm finally losing myself in the moment
Now we're going down
I'm descending into the unknown
And I can feel the eyes are watching us so closely, oh
I feel like my every move is being scrutinized
I'm trying not to make a sound
I'm trying to stay silent and unnoticed
'Cause I'll be found out somehow
I fear being exposed or caught out
Into the fire feeling higher than the truth
I'm willingly stepping into danger with complete trust
(I'm falling)
(I'm surrendering)
I can feel the heat but I'm not burning
I'm keenly aware of the danger, but I'm not afraid
Fear and desire feed the tired, hungry tooth
My fear and longing are driving me forward even though I'm exhausted
Feels like I'm falling, yeah
The feeling of free-fall is exhilarating
I can hear them calling
My fears and doubts still haunt me
Falling, falling, falling
Continuing to surrender to the moment
Never look back, never give up
I won't give up or back down
I'll never give up
I'm resolved to keep going no matter what
Fall, yeah
I'm letting myself completely fall into the moment

If Haim would of came out in the 80s they would be huge. But now we live in a era where girls bands with musical talent don't get alot of recognition. Haim is definitely a group that people really need to take notice of because they are the real deal when it comes to blending unique sounds into their music.
@edie6839
To be fair though, most of their music is ripped off from the eighties. Definitely nothing new and the music industry is also about making money so producers go with what sells(at the moment reworked house sort of stuff). I don't think they're particularly talented or controversial and even the processed album doesn't sound too perfected but I like them and it doesn't make their music any less enjoyable to listen too!
@edie6839
definitely true they are less popular because they are all girls
@edie6839
*****
That's a good point. I guess everything is borrowed from everything nowadays, in my opinion nothing really new in music has been created in the 21st century (apart from some of the house and drum and bass in the early 2000s, but most of that was continued from the 90s anyway). One direction are much more commercial than Haim and are aimed at at different audience and they got tons of publicity from x factor. I think Haim should get way more recognition than they do at the moment though
@edie6839
Also, not to judge by appearance but one of the main selling points of One Direction is that they're 'attractive'. Personally I think Haim are too, but they're in a natural average way rather than how most female artists look in the charts. It's so sad that to achieve success in music nowadays you either have to be flawless like Beyonce, shake your ass like Nicki Minaj or look perfect like Taylor Swift (no hate to any of these artists btw just examples) ^^sorry for the long comments
@MrCajunFury
Ava J. - I'm a guy and find Danielle of Haim extremely more attractive then Taylor Swift. Swift is far from perfect looking to me.
@ictea634
Haim is such an underrated band, cant wait for their new music.
@deevuh453
haha yes
@Prof.CheeseDog
They do pretty well for an offbeat-genre band.
