The sisters grew up in a musical family, and began playing instruments from an early age in the cover band Rockinhaim, fronted by their parents, Moti and Donna. The two elder sisters, Este and Danielle, began performing with the pop group "Valli Girls" in 2005. They released a few songs on soundtrack and compilation albums under that name, but left the group shortly after an appearance at the 2005 Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards. They formed Haim with younger sister Alana in 2007, but did not seriously consider it a professional career for some years. After Danielle became a successful touring guitarist, first with Jenny Lewis and later with Julian Casablancas, Haim reformed as a full-time operation in 2012.
The group's first release, Forever EP (an EP released as a limited-time download), combined with positive reception at the South by Southwest festival, led to a deal with Polydor Records and a management deal with Jay-Z's Roc Nation group in mid-2012. The band began recording material for their first album, Days Are Gone, in sessions between touring dates, including appearances at the Glastonbury Festival. The album charted in the top ten in several countries, including the number-one spot in the UK, and the group had won several "best of" awards by the end of 2013. The group was nominated for Best New Artist at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards. Their second album, Something to Tell You, was released in July 2017. Their third album, titled Women in Music Pt. III, was released on June 26, 2020. The group received nominations at the 63rd Grammy awards for Album of the Year and Best Rock Performance (for "The Steps").
In 2024, the sisters blacked out the band's Instagram, seemingly teasing new music by putting "writing... writing... writing..." in the account's bio.
Go Slow
HAIM Lyrics

So that I can hear everything you're saying
Now, I know you're going
You just threw this away
You know I ain't gonna take it (go slow)
But we ain't gonna make it (I know)
I can't make you stay but
I'll be hurting from the heat
Heat heat
Hurting from the heat
Heat heat
Well, well was it something that I said
(I know that it was something I said)
(From your heat now)
Going crazy trying hard to forget
(You know I'm trying hard to forget)
(From your heat now)
Oh, I just wanna go back, hold on, to the way that I was
'Cause you took away all my young life
And I hate who I've become, from your heat now
From the heat, it's coming, coming
I know I'm giving in and believing every lie
For now the moon is night, I turn off the light
And you should get the foundation (go slow now)
With your intimidation (I know)
Oh, when you turn away now
I'll be hurting from the heat
Heat heat
Hurting from the heat
Well, well was it something that I said
(I know that it was something I said)
(From your heat now)
Going crazy trying hard to forget
(You know I'm trying hard to forget)
(From your heat now)
Oh, I just wanna go back, hold on, to the way that I was
'Cause you took away all my young life
And I hate who I've become, from your heat now
No, from your heat now
From the heat now, from your heat now
From your heat now now baby
From your heat now, from your heat now
From your heat now now now now
Well, well was it something that I said
(I know that it was something I said)
(From your heat now)
Going crazy trying hard to forget
(You know I'm trying hard to forget)
(From your heat now)
Oh, I just wanna go back, hold on, to the way that I was
'Cause you took away all my young life
And I hate who I've become, from your heat now
Hurting from the heat
Oh, I just wanna go back (go back)
The lyrics to HAIM’s song “Go Slow” are about the end of a relationship and the pain that comes with it. The singer of the song is struggling to come to terms with the breakup and is wondering if it was something they did to end the relationship. They plead with their former partner to slow down so they can hear what they're saying and try to fix things, but they know it’s too late. The partner has already thrown the relationship away and is leaving for good. The singer tries to forget about their partner and move on, but they are not able to. They are hurting from the heat of their passion and connection and struggle with the changes that have come about as a result.
The chorus of the song, “I’ll be hurting from the heat, heat, hurting from the heat, heat,” is repeated throughout the song and serves as a reminder of the pain and heartbreak that is inevitable when a relationship ends. The verses of the song are filled with despair, as the singer tries to come to terms with the fact that they are no longer with the person they love. They ask themselves if it was something they said that led to the breakdown of the relationship and wonder if they could have done anything to prevent it.
Overall, “Go Slow” is a powerful song about love and loss, and how the end of a relationship can leave us feeling lost and alone. The lyrics and melody are haunting, and the song captures the raw emotion of heartbreak and longing.
