The sisters grew up in a musical family, and began playing instruments from an early age in the cover band Rockinhaim, fronted by their parents, Moti and Donna. The two elder sisters, Este and Danielle, began performing with the pop group "Valli Girls" in 2005. They released a few songs on soundtrack and compilation albums under that name, but left the group shortly after an appearance at the 2005 Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards. They formed Haim with younger sister Alana in 2007, but did not seriously consider it a professional career for some years. After Danielle became a successful touring guitarist, first with Jenny Lewis and later with Julian Casablancas, Haim reformed as a full-time operation in 2012.
The group's first release, Forever (an EP released as a limited-time download), combined with positive reception at the South by Southwest festival, led to a deal with Polydor Records and a management deal with Jay-Z's Roc Nation group in mid-2012. The band began recording material for their first album, Days Are Gone, in sessions between touring dates, including appearances at the Glastonbury Festival. The album charted in the top ten in several countries, including the number-one spot in the UK, and the group had won several "best of" awards by the end of 2013. The group was nominated for Best New Artist at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards. Their second album, Something to Tell You, was released in July 2017. Their third album, titled Women in Music Pt. III, was released on June 26, 2020. The group received nominations at the 63rd Grammy awards for Album of the Year and Best Rock Performance (for "The Steps").
Let me go
HAIM Lyrics

Give me in,
I gave you everything I could give.
You try to take,
And you try to make, take all everything you can't break
If you go so easily,
Go on, get out, when you leave.
Let me out,
Let me in,
I've giving up, not giving in.
'Cause together we are not one, we are nothing.
We're holding on, and on.
Together now, forever then.
Go ahead, don't you let me in.
But I will wait, I will want.
Wait 'til the day you're back again.
Let me go.
You know I'm not one for leaving.
Let me go.
You know I'm nothing without your love, no.
I know I'm nothing without your love
So let me go.
(Let me go)
You know I'm not one for leaving.
Let me go.
You know I'm nothing without your love, no.
I know I'm nothing without your love.
So please, God, let me go.
Let me out,
Let me in.
I gave you everything I could give.
You try to take, and you try to make,
You take all everything you can make.
If you go so easily,
Go on get out, when you leave
I will wait, I will want, wait 'til the day you're back again.
Let it out,
Let it in.
I'm giving up, not giving in,
'Cause together we are not one, we are nothing, holdin' on and on.
Together now, forever then.
Go ahead, don't you put me in.
I will wait, I will want, wait 'til the day you're back again.
Let me go.
You know I'm not one for leaving.
Let me go.
You know that I'm nothing without your love, no.
You know I'm nothing without your love, no.
'Cause you know that I'm not one for leaving,
No, I'm not one for leaving,
But I'll go on believing, hey, I'll go on believing.
And I'm not one for leaving, no, I'm not for leaving,
No, I'm not one for leaving, no, I'm not one for leaving.
So let me go.
You know I'm not one for leaving.
Let me go.
(Let me go)
You know I'm not one for leaving.
Let me go.
(Let me go)
You know I'm not one for leaving.
Let me go.
(Let me go)
Let me go.
(Let me go)
Let me go.
The opening lines of HAIM's song "Let Me Go" express a sense of being trapped in a frustrating and unfulfilling relationship. The singer wants out, but the other person keeps taking and never gives anything in return. The chorus is a plea to be released and allowed to move on, but it's clear that the singer still has strong feelings for their ex-partner, as they say "you know I'm nothing without your love." The conflict between wanting to be free and wanting to hold onto what was good about the relationship comes through in lines like "together we are not one, we are nothing" and "we're holding on, and on."
The second verse complicates things further, suggesting that the singer may have already given up on the relationship but is still waiting for the other person to come back. The repetition of "wait 'til the day you're back again" reinforces the sense of being stuck in limbo, unable to move forward or let go. The climax of the song comes in the bridge, where the singer seems to be grappling with conflicting emotions and beliefs. They say "I'm not one for leaving" but immediately add "but I'll go on believing," suggesting a willingness to change and grow even if it means leaving behind what's comfortable.
Overall, "Let Me Go" is a song about the struggle to end a toxic relationship and move on while still holding onto hope and love. It captures the push-pull of conflicting emotions and desires that many people experience in these kinds of situations.
