The sisters grew up in a musical family, and began playing instruments from an early age in the cover band Rockinhaim, fronted by their parents, Moti and Donna. The two elder sisters, Este and Danielle, began performing with the pop group "Valli Girls" in 2005. They released a few songs on soundtrack and compilation albums under that name, but left the group shortly after an appearance at the 2005 Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards. They formed Haim with younger sister Alana in 2007, but did not seriously consider it a professional career for some years. After Danielle became a successful touring guitarist, first with Jenny Lewis and later with Julian Casablancas, Haim reformed as a full-time operation in 2012.
The group's first release, Forever (an EP released as a limited-time download), combined with positive reception at the South by Southwest festival, led to a deal with Polydor Records and a management deal with Jay-Z's Roc Nation group in mid-2012. The band began recording material for their first album, Days Are Gone, in sessions between touring dates, including appearances at the Glastonbury Festival. The album charted in the top ten in several countries, including the number-one spot in the UK, and the group had won several "best of" awards by the end of 2013. The group was nominated for Best New Artist at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards. Their second album, Something to Tell You, was released in July 2017. Their third album, titled Women in Music Pt. III, was released on June 26, 2020. The group received nominations at the 63rd Grammy awards for Album of the Year and Best Rock Performance (for "The Steps").

All my crazy reactions over my ex
Maybe you played way too hard to get
So I kept it moving to another one one night stand
I promise I will treat you right, treat you right, babe
'Cause that's all I wanna do, oh
I promise I will treat you right, treat you right, babe
I promise I'll treat you right
Been waiting my whole damn life
Baby, it's about time
I wasn't ready for you
Funny how this whole game played
Three years since I learned your name
The wrong time, the wrong place
I wasn't ready for you
Maybe I couldn't tell you why
I didn't hide the first night I met you
We were locking eyes
They said you'd be like all the other guys
Two faced, but too numb to know it
Telling your pretty lies, babe
But I promise I will treat you right, treat you right, babe
'Cause that's all I wanna do, oh
I promise I will treat you right, treat you right, babe
So that's what I'm gonna do (that's what I'm gonna do)
I promise I'll treat you right
Been waiting my whole damn life
Baby, it's about time
I wasn't ready for you
Funny how this whole game played
Three years since I learned your name
The wrong time, the wrong place
I wasn't ready for you
Keep thinking about you
Thinking you almost slipped through
There won't be another day I let you get away
I keep calling 'til your guard comes down
'Cause I wanna keep you around
'Cause we started something good
But just know that before you
I wasn't ready (for you)
I wasn't ready (for you)
When you first met me (for you)
That's what I'm gonna do
I wasn't ready, I wasn't ready for you, baby
I wasn't ready for you, baby
For you, baby, for you, baby
I wasn't ready for you
I promise I'll treat you right
Been waiting my whole damn life (waiting my whole damn life)
Baby, it's about time
I wasn't ready for you (I wasn't ready, baby)
Funny how this whole game played
Three years since I learned your name
The wrong time, the wrong place
I wasn't ready for you
I wasn't ready, baby
I wasn't ready for you, baby
I wasn't ready
(I wasn't ready for you)
I wasn't ready, baby
I wasn't ready for you, baby
I wasn't ready
(I wasn't ready for you)
I wasn't ready, I wasn't ready, no
I wasn't ready
(I wasn't ready for you)
I wasn't ready
The song "Ready for You" by HAIM talks about past relationships and meeting someone new. The first verse suggests that the singer's previous relationship was full of drama, and they tried to forget it by engaging in a one-night stand. When they meet the person they address in the song, they promise to treat them right and finally have found someone they are ready to commit to. The chorus is repeated throughout the song and emphasizes the singer's desire to treat their new partner well.
The second verse references the singer's initial thoughts about their new partner when they first met. They were worried that their new partner would be like all the other guys they had met before, but they eventually realize that they are different and want to treat them right. The bridge expresses how much the singer thinks about their new partner and the effort they put in to make sure they don't let them go.
Overall, the song is about finally finding someone who is worth committing to and treating well. It's a reflection on past relationships and a promise to do better in the future.
