The sisters grew up in a musical family, and began playing instruments from an early age in the cover band Rockinhaim, fronted by their parents, Moti and Donna. The two elder sisters, Este and Danielle, began performing with the pop group "Valli Girls" in 2005. They released a few songs on soundtrack and compilation albums under that name, but left the group shortly after an appearance at the 2005 Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards. They formed Haim with younger sister Alana in 2007, but did not seriously consider it a professional career for some years. After Danielle became a successful touring guitarist, first with Jenny Lewis and later with Julian Casablancas, Haim reformed as a full-time operation in 2012.
The group's first release, Forever (an EP released as a limited-time download), combined with positive reception at the South by Southwest festival, led to a deal with Polydor Records and a management deal with Jay-Z's Roc Nation group in mid-2012. The band began recording material for their first album, Days Are Gone, in sessions between touring dates, including appearances at the Glastonbury Festival. The album charted in the top ten in several countries, including the number-one spot in the UK, and the group had won several "best of" awards by the end of 2013. The group was nominated for Best New Artist at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards. Their second album, Something to Tell You, was released in July 2017. Their third album, titled Women in Music Pt. III, was released on June 26, 2020. The group received nominations at the 63rd Grammy awards for Album of the Year and Best Rock Performance (for "The Steps").

Said what I gave wasn't enough
You had me feeling I was foolish
For ever thinking this could be the one
I wasn't even in the running
Already had your mind made up
You left me searching for a reason
And now you're saying that you need me, babe
(Right now, right now)
And now you're saying that you need me, babe
(Right now, right now)
And now you're saying that you love me, love me, babe
(Right now, right now)
And now you're saying that you need me
Saying that you need me
Saying that you need me
(Right now)
Gave you my love thought I could trust you
You let me down at every turn
You had me hanging on a dream you never believed
You gave me your word
Finally on the other side now
And I could see for miles
And I've forgotten every line
Now you're saying that you need me, babe
(Right now, right now)
And now you're saying that you need me, babe
(Right now, right now)
And now you're saying that you love me, love me, babe
(Right now, right now)
And now you're saying that you need me
Saying that you need me
Saying that you need me
(Right now)
Did you think this would be easy?
Thought this would be easy
Not now, not now
I know you heard me through an open window
Whispers carried to your ear
Whispers sounded so clear
"Somehow it's so clear now
Somehow it's so clear now
What's that sound?
That's you fading away"
Now you're saying that you need me, babe
(Right now, right now)
And now you're saying that you need me, babe
(Right now, right now)
Ooh and now you're saying that you love me, love me, babe
(Right now, right now)
And now you're saying that you need me
Saying that you need me
Saying that you need me
(Right now)
Now you're saying that you need me, babe
(Right now, right now)
Ooh and now you're saying that you need me, babe
(Right now, right now)
Ooh and now you're saying that you love me, love me, babe
(Right now, right now)
And now you're saying that you need me
Saying that you need me
Saying that you need me
(Right now)
(Right now, right now)
(Right now, right now)
(Right now)
The song "Right Now" by HAIM seems to be about a failing relationship that someone is reluctantly holding onto. The lyrics detail the singer's disillusionment with their partner, who they gave love to unconditionally, but did not receive the same in return. The partner initially made the singer feel foolish for thinking that they could be "the one," and then eventually left them without any explanation. However, later the partner returns and states that they need and love the singer, which creates a dilemma for the singer. They are hesitant to dive back into the relationship, and instead are reflecting on what they have gone through and how they have grown from it.
Throughout the song, HAIM conveys the message of learning to love oneself and not settling for less than what one deserves. The chorus "Right now" emphasizes the singer's call to attention in the present moment and the importance of making decisions based on what is best for oneself.
Overall, the song is an emotional reckoning of a relationship's demise and the confusion and pain it causes. It speaks to anyone who has ever been in a troubled relationship and the struggle to move on or accept an apology.
