The sisters grew up in a musical family, and began playing instruments from an early age in the cover band Rockinhaim, fronted by their parents, Moti and Donna. The two elder sisters, Este and Danielle, began performing with the pop group "Valli Girls" in 2005. They released a few songs on soundtrack and compilation albums under that name, but left the group shortly after an appearance at the 2005 Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards. They formed Haim with younger sister Alana in 2007, but did not seriously consider it a professional career for some years. After Danielle became a successful touring guitarist, first with Jenny Lewis and later with Julian Casablancas, Haim reformed as a full-time operation in 2012.
The group's first release, Forever EP (an EP released as a limited-time download), combined with positive reception at the South by Southwest festival, led to a deal with Polydor Records and a management deal with Jay-Z's Roc Nation group in mid-2012. The band began recording material for their first album, Days Are Gone, in sessions between touring dates, including appearances at the Glastonbury Festival. The album charted in the top ten in several countries, including the number-one spot in the UK, and the group had won several "best of" awards by the end of 2013. The group was nominated for Best New Artist at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards. Their second album, Something to Tell You, was released in July 2017. Their third album, titled Women in Music Pt. III, was released on June 26, 2020. The group received nominations at the 63rd Grammy awards for Album of the Year and Best Rock Performance (for "The Steps").
In 2024, the sisters blacked out the band's Instagram, seemingly teasing new music by putting "writing... writing... writing..." in the account's bio.

You're there when I close my eyes, so hard to reach
Your smiles turn into crying, it's the same release
And you always know, and you always know
I'm your summer girl
I'm your summer girl
I'm your summer girlI'm your summer girl
Doot, do, doot, do, doot, do, doot, do, do
Doot, do, doot, do, doot, do, doot, do, do
Doot, do, doot, do, doot, do, doot, do, do
Doot, do, doot, do, doot, do, doot, do, do
Lightning in your eyes, you can't speak
Falling from the sky, down to me
I see it in your face, I'm relief
I'm your summer girl
I'm your summer girl
I'm your summer girl
I'm your summer girl
I'm your summer girl
I'm your summer girl
I'm your summer girl
Doot, do, doot, do, doot, do, doot, do, do
Doot, do, doot, do, doot, do, doot, do, do
Doot, do, doot, do, doot, do, doot, do, do
Doot, do, doot, do, doot, do, doot, do, do
Peer around the corner at you
From over my shoulder I need you
These are the earthquake drills that we ran
Under the freeway overpasses
The tears behind your dark sunglasses
The fears inside your heart as deep as gashes
You walk beside me, not behind me
Feel my unconditional love
And I can see the angels coming down (doot, do, doot, do)
Just like a wave that's crashing on the ground (doot, do, doot, do)
I can see the angels coming now (doot, do, doot, do)
Like a wave that's crashing on the ground (doot, do, doot, do)
And I can see the angels coming down
Like a wave that's crashing on the ground
The lyrics of HAIM's song Summer Girl evoke a feeling of nostalgia and longing, with the singer reminiscing about an absent loved one who is always on their mind. The opening lines "L.A. on my mind, I can't breathe, you're there when I close my eyes, so hard to reach" suggest that this person is physically distant and difficult to communicate with, but they are a constant presence in the singer's thoughts.
The chorus, which repeats the phrase "I'm your summer girl" several times, implies that the singer is a source of comfort and happiness for this person, and that their relationship is mostly experienced during the summer months. The use of the word "girl" suggests a playful and carefree dynamic between the two.
As the song progresses, the lyrics become more enigmatic and poetic, with mentions of lightning in their eyes and falling from the sky. The lines "peer around the corner at you, from over my shoulder I need you" create a sense of urgency and desire, and the repetition of the phrase "I'm your summer girl" reinforces the singer's role as a source of support during difficult times.
Overall, the lyrics of Summer Girl are open to interpretation and could be interpreted as a love song, a tribute to a friend or family member, or a nostalgic reflection on past memories.

The saxophone guy, Henry Solomon, absolutely slayed his part in this MV. That last 20 seconds of intersecting between Solomon and HAIM was pure magical.

Judging from all their music videos, if I visit LA one day and don't see HAIM endless walking up and down random streets, I'm going to be disapointed.
