The sisters grew up in a musical family, and began playing instruments from an early age in the cover band Rockinhaim, fronted by their parents, Moti and Donna. The two elder sisters, Este and Danielle, began performing with the pop group "Valli Girls" in 2005. They released a few songs on soundtrack and compilation albums under that name, but left the group shortly after an appearance at the 2005 Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards. They formed Haim with younger sister Alana in 2007, but did not seriously consider it a professional career for some years. After Danielle became a successful touring guitarist, first with Jenny Lewis and later with Julian Casablancas, Haim reformed as a full-time operation in 2012.
The group's first release, Forever (an EP released as a limited-time download), combined with positive reception at the South by Southwest festival, led to a deal with Polydor Records and a management deal with Jay-Z's Roc Nation group in mid-2012. The band began recording material for their first album, Days Are Gone, in sessions between touring dates, including appearances at the Glastonbury Festival. The album charted in the top ten in several countries, including the number-one spot in the UK, and the group had won several "best of" awards by the end of 2013. The group was nominated for Best New Artist at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards. Their second album, Something to Tell You, was released in July 2017. Their third album, titled Women in Music Pt. III, was released on June 26, 2020. The group received nominations at the 63rd Grammy awards for Album of the Year and Best Rock Performance (for "The Steps").
Walking Away

If you were gonna face it, you would've by now
When were you around? Where were you at?
I waited hours and hours, hearing loud sirens
Suffered through this every different day
You see, now I'm not coming around
Coming around, coming around
Walking away, walking away
Walking away, walking away, walking away
Walking away, walking away
You don't wanna give and you don't wanna know how
If you were gonna change things, you would've by now
When were you around? Where were you at?
Trying not think about it, baby
Running up and down the stairs
'Til there's nothing left between us but what we won't say
Walking away, walking away, walking away
Walking away, walking away
Walking away, walking away, walking away
Walking away, walking away
I don't know what's said so many times before
But now it's keeping me away
I know you did it so many times before
But I never thought I'd be the one you betrayed
Away, I'm not gonna wait
Nothing you can say that'll make me rethink
Every chance that we had and messed up
All the times it got away from us
Away, I'm not gonna wait
Nothing you can say that'll make me rethink
Every chance that we had and messed up
All the times it got away from us
Say something, say something, say something
While I can still heal, while I can still heal
Say something, say something, say something
While I can still heal, while I can still heal
Say something, say something, say something
While I can still heal, while I can still heal
Away, I'm not gonna wait
Nothing you can say that'll make me rethink
Every chance that we had and messed up
All the times it got away from us
Away, I'm not gonna wait
Nothing you can say that'll make me rethink
Every chance that we had and messed up
All the times it got away from us
Away, I'm not gonna wait
Nothing you can say that'll make me rethink
Every chance that we had and messed up
All the times it got away from us
Away, I'm not gonna wait
Nothing you can say that'll make me rethink
Every chance that we had and messed up
All the times it got away from us
Away, I'm not gonna wait
Nothing you can say that'll make me rethink
Every chance that we had and messed up
All the times it got away from us
Away, I'm not gonna wait
Nothing you can say that'll make me rethink
Every chance that we had and messed up
All the times it got away from us
The lyrics of HAIM's song "Walking Away" narrate the story of a relationship where one person is not willing to work things out, and the other has decided to walk away. The lines, "You don't wanna talk, don't wanna work it out / If you were gonna face it, you would've by now" express frustration and disappointment towards the other person's lack of effort in trying to fix things. The singer is left waiting for the other person who never shows up, as expressed in the lyrics "When were you around? Where were you at? / I waited hours and hours, hearing loud sirens."
The singer finally reaches a tipping point and decides to walk away from the relationship, as seen in the repetition of the chorus "Walking away, walking away." The lines "I don't know what's said so many times before / But now it's keeping me away" express the idea that the repetition of the same mistakes has led to the end of the relationship. The singer expresses a sense of betrayal, as seen in the lines "But I never thought I'd be the one you betrayed."
Overall, the lyrics of "Walking Away" express feelings of frustration, disappointment, and betrayal towards a failing relationship. The singer decides to take control of the situation by walking away and not waiting for the other person to change their ways.

I'm 42,
I've been playing guitar in bands for years,
I love many different genres of music.
Every now and again something comes along that transcends everything with it's emotive soulful sounds and structures!
These guys possess the magic that all the greats do, a long and colourful future awaits Haim.

I first saw them 6 years ago when they were touring with the Mumford & Sons Gentlemen on the Road tour. They blew me away. They won a Grammy today for this song. I'd say the future is very bright.
