I Need Your Love
HARRIS Calvin ft. GOULDING Ellie Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I need your love
I need your time
When everything's wrong
You make it right
I feel so high
I come alive
I need to be free with you tonight
I need your love

I need your love

I take a deep breath every time I pass your door
I know you're there but I can't see you anymore
And that's the reason you're in the dark
I've been a stranger ever since we fell apart
I feel so out of sea
Watch my eyes are filled with fear
Tell me do you feel the same
Hold me in your arms again

I need your love
I need your time
When everything's wrong
You make it right
I feel so high
I go alive
I need to be free with you tonight
I need your love

I need your love

Now I'm dreaming, will ever find you now?
I walk in circles but I never make it out
What I mean to you, do I belong
I try to fight this but I know I'm not that strong

And I feel so helpless here
Watch my eyes are filled with fear
Tell me do you feel the same
Hold me in your arms again

I need your love
I need your time
When everything's wrong
You make it right
I feel so high
I come alive
I need to be free with you tonight
I need your love

I need your love

All the years
All the times
You were never been to blame
And now my eyes are open
And now my heart is closing
And all the tears
All the lies
All the waste
I've been trying to make it change
And now my eyes are open

I need your love
I need your time
When everything's wrong
You make it right
I feel so high

I come alive
I need to be free

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to "I Need Your Love" by Harris Calvin, Goulding Ellie, Keem Project, and DJ God expresses the longing for a love that makes everything in one's life right. The singer expresses their desperation for the love and time of their partner. When things are unbalanced and wrong, the partner makes it better, and the singer feels alive and so high with them. The singer longs to be free with their partner, with a desire to connect with them as they once had.

The second verse highlights the distance the singer feels from their partner. Although the singer knows their partner is there, they cannot see them anymore. This distance has led to both feeling like strangers to each other since they parted ways. The singer is afraid and seeks comfort in their partner's arms, needing them to hold them again. The chorus is repeated, emphasizing how much the singer needs love and time from the partner.

The bridge signifies the turning point in the singer's emotions. They realize that it was not their partner's fault for everything that went wrong in their relationship. They acknowledge their own mistakes, the tears, lies, and waste in trying to make things right. The singer's eyes are now open, but their heart is closing, possibly due to the realization that their relationship is truly over.

This song was a huge hit when I was 21. I’m 29 now. Enjoy your 20’s.

Let me give you some advice.

1. Don’t worry about finding the right person. When I quit looking and caring. We met.

2. Do NOT get into debt over stupid stuff. (Medical, Education, etc.) is the exception.
I’m talking about credit card debt. If you can’t afford it. You don’t need it. Save up for it.

3. Save your money

4. Don’t listen to people who will bring you down. I did that and I am in the same place for the past several years.

5. Don’t waste your early 20’s on drinking. It’s not worth it because you finally can.

6. Have fun and enjoy life. (YOLO) haven’t heard that in years and I cringed at that. It’s true though . Everyday is a new experience, so enjoy life one day at a time.

Most of this has been repeated several times to people, but it wouldn’t be repeated if it wasn’t true. I hope you have a wonderful decade!

@yerischerries3010

This song brings me back to easier times.
I remember I was 12 when I first heard this song. I was at summer camp, and I was waiting to be picked up by my mom.. there were songs playing in the background, and I was sick and tired of hearing them. They were overplayed on the radio, things like Best Day Of My Life. I was done hearing all these happy songs, because I had no way to consider myself happy.
Then, it played. This song played. Now don't get me wrong, I don't normally resonate with music, but this stood out to me, and it made me happy (from the lyrics, or at least what I could gather from them with my 12 year old brain) to know that people with so much talent are struggling. It made me feel like I wasn't alone (I was a pretty narcissistic kid, I thought I was too good for everyone else lol).
I don't know if any of you have ever had the feeling of something making you so truly happy, only to have it just taken away from you, but that's what happened to me. Of course, the song had to end, like every other song does. Over the years, I lost the song more and more. I couldn't find it, and I missed it. I wanted that feeling of nostalgia we all long for; the feeling that makes you happy.
It's taken 6 years, but I found it again. I really do miss those times, but like everything that's good, of course there's a downside to it as well. I was a kid who couldn't understand social tendencies. I was a kid who never joined in on anything. It was tough, but I miss it.

Note that while I said they were easier times, they weren't better times. I found my way out of whatever was going on at that point, and now I'm doing well for myself, I'd say. I just want anyone who sees this to know; if you're struggling with anything, there's help, and it really does get better. It may take you a lot less time than I did. It may take you a month for you to find someone you really love that can help you to treat this, but it might also take you as long as I did to find any solution.
All that matters is that people are here for you, and, well, I'm here, even if I have no idea who you are. I want you all to know that I don't care what type of person you are, or what's in your past. I care that you get better, and I support anything you may need to use to help you get there, whether it be medicine or your own willpower.

There is help.
Much love, Brendan <3
