Homegrown
HAUX Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

In the dark, found by me
We were so close, I couldn't back away
'Cause you were a shadow
And I left you in the shade
I was still running from all my mistakes

Cut to the fallen
Silenced all the world
I was still fighting
All that you deserve
Although it seems likely that I left before the storm
The truth is I couldn't be here wanting more

I traced my lies to cause
All I could was a ghost
All I could find was your ghost
I traced my lies to cause
All I could find was a ghost
All I could find was your ghost

I stay homegrown
Homegrown, homegrown
I stay homegrown
(I stay) homegrown, homegrown
(I stay) homegrown, homegrown
(I stay) homegrown, homegrown
(I stay) homegrown, homegrown
(I stay) homegrown, homegrown
(I stay) homegrown, homegrown
Homegrown

I traced my lies to cause
All I could was a ghost
All I could find was your ghost
All I could find was your ghost
I traced my lies to cause
All I could find was a ghost
All I could find was your ghost
All I could find

It was the winter, the shivers up my spine
It was the winter that left us both behind
Late in cover, only came to bear aside
Bruise left by lover
Bruise left by lover

I traced my lies to cause
All I could find was your ghost

Overall Meaning

The song "Homegrown" by HAUX is a hauntingly beautiful ballad that explores the aftermath of a failed relationship. In the opening lines, the singer describes how they found the other person "in the dark" and "so close" that they couldn't back away. However, they quickly realize that the other person was just a shadow and they leave them "in the shade." Despite trying to run away from their mistakes, the singer continues to fight and try to prove that they deserve something better. However, they eventually come to the realization that they cannot move forward until they confront the truth and accept responsibility for their actions. The chorus of the song is a repeated refrain of "homegrown" which can be interpreted as the singer's desire to return to a simpler time and reconnect with their roots.

The bridge of the song provides additional insight into the singer's feelings as they reflect on the past. The mention of winter creates a bleak and melancholy atmosphere that serves to underscore the pain they experienced. The line "late in cover, only came to bear aside" suggests that the singer tried to hide their true feelings and only revealed them once it was too late. Finally, the song concludes with the singer once again acknowledging their own role in the relationship's failure and admitting that all they have left is the ghost of the person they once loved.

Overall, "Homegrown" is a powerful and emotionally resonant song that explores themes of regret, reflection, and acceptance. Through its haunting melody and thought-provoking lyrics, it reaches deep into the heart of what it means to be human and the complexities of our relationships.

Ahahaha! omgee, same! Poor Mateo..... that whole scene, from the minute Dina was like, "Just go, just go, No wait, go over, wait, I, I, I dont know where to go. They're everywhere. I'm so sorry." through to seeing the whole store exchange waves and looks of goodye with sadness as hes being driven away, (Q song) to the very end, with Amy and Jonahs closing lines, hit me with so many emotions, so fast. It seemed so genuine and real in some weird way. I dont know maybe, I'm just wow'd a little from it, being its Superstore? Dont get me wrong, I absolutely love them, it's one of the greatest, random, comedy shows on network television. To me, underrated even, especially in comparison to others that air currently and or are in no way even close to as good. It's just not a common occurrence to have scenes hit you like that on quirky, adult, random, comedy shows. So I freaking really liked the finale. Sad and dont want to see the show without Mateo, but I just thought everyone did so amazing. I actually just finished watching both episodes for the 2nd time, hahaha!! Loser
