In February 2007 the band released their first record, a two song vinyl with the song "That Boy That Girl", which gained mainstream popularity after the video, directed by friend Bob Harlow, made it onto MTV2. Shortly after the video, the band added bassist Chris Purcell. After releasing their 12-track mixtape "Not Here To Please You" on November 12, 2007 featuring originals and remixes, the band returned to the studio to complete their debut album Music for an Accelerated Culture. This featured nine new songs as well as the single "Liquid Lives" and was released on May 5th 2008. It achieved reasonable success reaching 12th in the UK album charts.
In mid-2009, the band recorded their second studio album, For the Masses, in Holland with drum and bass producers NOISIA. The band described the new album as being different, both lyrically and musically. The album was released on February 25th 2010 and did not have the same success as their debut album, receiving generally poor reviews from critics and reaching 19th in the UK album charts.
Songfacts reports that "Parasite" is the band's first single after signing with independent label Ministry of Sound. Zane Lowe premiered the song on April 12, 2012 during his BBC Radio 1 show.
On 27 December 2012, the band announced that their third studio album will be called 'Every Weekend' and will be released through their own label 'Surface Noise Recordings'. The group made an appearance in 2012 on Feed Me's "Trapdoor" and James provided vocals for KillSonik's song "Slaughterhouse" this year.
On 22 January 2013 Hadouken! released a follow up video to 'People Are Awesome', titled 'People Are Awesome 2013'. The video featured the track 'Levitate' taken from the album 'Every Weekend'. 'People Are Awesome 2013' was the number one most watched video on YouTube around the world, gaining 20 million views in its first week.
On November 10th 2014, Hadouken! announced their hiatus through Facebook.
The band’s name is a reference to a special move called "the Hadouken" (surge fist) from the Street Fighter video game franchise where the player throws a fireball at their opponent. The video game references extend into their music which includes sound effects from Nintendo Game Boy titles.

Where's your head?
Where's your head?
Where's your head?
Is it off?
Is it on have you lost it?
Where's your head?
Where's your head?
Where's your head?
Is it buried in the sand?
Up your arse?
Are you brain dead?
Uh oh it's us again
Yo the same five kids from the HDKN,
And we're on this game like a kid with a brand new PlayStation,
Get to know that we're coming for you
Because I've got more bars that JD Wheatherspoons,
More lines than Camden could do,
More word that Google could search through.
Stop,
Stop right now,
No you don't.
And I thought I told you,
The game is over,
Game is over,
Showed you,
Showed you,
The game is over.
Where's your head?
Where's your head?
Where's your head?
Where's your head?
Is it off?
Is it on have you lost it?
Where's your head?
Where's your head?
Where's your head?
Where's your head?
Is it buried in the sand?
Up your arse?
Are you brain dead?
You can say what you like,
We don't care now,
You can type what you type,
We don't care at all,
Still in your fucking eyeballs,
So where's your head at,
Still in your fucking eardrums,
So where's your head at.
Stop,
Stop right now,
No you don't.
And I thought I told you,
The game is over,
Game is over,
Showed you,
Showed you,
The game is over.
So where you at,
And where's your head,
Your precious indie rock's dead
And I'll fuck up your life like crystal meth,
So now it's on and I'm in the zone,
You fuck up my ears like a shit ringtone.
Stop,
Stop right now,
No you don't,
No you don't.
Uh oh it's us again yo,
Uh oh it's us again yo,
Uh oh it's us again yo,
Same five kids but a brand new show.
Uh oh it's us again yo,
Uh oh it's us again yo,
Uh oh it's us again yo,
Same five kids but a brand new show.
It's us again yo,
Uh oh it's us again yo,
Uh oh it's us again yo,
Same five kids but a brand new show.
It's us again yo,
Uh oh it's us again yo,
Uh oh it's us again yo,
Same five kids but a brand new show.
Your time is up friend all bad things must come to an end.
Your time has been so fuck you and your precious scene.
The lyrics to Hadouken!'s "Game Over" are a critique of the indie rock scene and the arrogance that the band associates with it. They ask, "Where's your head?" repeatedly, reminding the listener of the importance of staying grounded and avoiding getting lost in their own ego. Throughout the song, the band uses a confrontational tone to challenge the listener's idea of what it means to make good music, with lines like "More lines than Camden could do" and "More word than Google could search through."
The band also makes references to video games, comparing their pursuit of success to a child's enthusiasm for a new PlayStation. They suggest that they are unstoppable in their quest for fame and success, with "more bars than JD Wheatherspoons" (a UK chain of pubs known for their cheap drinks) and the ability to "fuck up your life like crystal meth." The refrain, "The game is over," emphasizes their belief that they have already won.
Ultimately, "Game Over" is a bold, aggressive statement from a band that sees themselves as better than the indie rock scene and willing to do whatever it takes to rise to the top of the music industry.
