In February 2007 the band released their first record, a two song vinyl with the song "That Boy That Girl", which gained mainstream popularity after the video, directed by friend Bob Harlow, made it onto MTV2. Shortly after the video, the band added bassist Chris Purcell. After releasing their 12-track mixtape "Not Here To Please You" on November 12, 2007 featuring originals and remixes, the band returned to the studio to complete their debut album Music for an Accelerated Culture. This featured nine new songs as well as the single "Liquid Lives" and was released on May 5th 2008. It achieved reasonable success reaching 12th in the UK album charts.
In mid-2009, the band recorded their second studio album, For the Masses, in Holland with drum and bass producers NOISIA. The band described the new album as being different, both lyrically and musically. The album was released on February 25th 2010 and did not have the same success as their debut album, receiving generally poor reviews from critics and reaching 19th in the UK album charts.
Songfacts reports that "Parasite" is the band's first single after signing with independent label Ministry of Sound. Zane Lowe premiered the song on April 12, 2012 during his BBC Radio 1 show.
On 27 December 2012, the band announced that their third studio album will be called 'Every Weekend' and will be released through their own label 'Surface Noise Recordings'. The group made an appearance in 2012 on Feed Me's "Trapdoor" and James provided vocals for KillSonik's song "Slaughterhouse" this year.
On 22 January 2013 Hadouken! released a follow up video to 'People Are Awesome', titled 'People Are Awesome 2013'. The video featured the track 'Levitate' taken from the album 'Every Weekend'. 'People Are Awesome 2013' was the number one most watched video on YouTube around the world, gaining 20 million views in its first week.
On November 10th 2014, Hadouken! announced their hiatus through Facebook.
The band’s name is a reference to a special move called "the Hadouken" (surge fist) from the Street Fighter video game franchise where the player throws a fireball at their opponent. The video game references extend into their music which includes sound effects from Nintendo Game Boy titles.

Skinny fit jeans and dressed in pink,
How he dresses I care zero,
As long as he don't steal my drink.
That girls an Indie Cindy,
Lego haircut and polka-dot dress,
I don't care if she thinks she's indie,
You've got you skin tight, colors on the floor,
With all your white lines, every slut and whore,
All the band boys in your specs and sneakers,
On your back yeah, its time to blow the speaker,
I went to a rave and it got real moody,
How can a screwface have a good time?
Was he deprived of his mothers boobie?
I doubt he's lived a life of grime
I went to a gig but nobody danced,
Everybody was far too cool,
All the kiddies they just stood there,
Is it the same at their public school?
(follow, wallow, swallow)
I stay hard like metal,
You could never merk me,
Dirty like skettle,
I kill germs like dettol,
Get mucky,
But I will never settle.
I'm an indie limey,
Yeah but I like it grimey,
And I rave with a grin,
I'm not too cool for the next big thing,
I don't wanna fuck about,
I wanna good time and that's why I'm out,
And you look silly,
When you put on your best myspace pout.
The lyrics of Hadouken!'s "That Boy That Girl" talk about the music and fashion culture in Hoxton, London. The song portrays a sense of non-conformism and individuality where people can express themselves without any fear of being judged. The first verse talks about a "Hoxton Hero" who wears skinny fit jeans and pink clothes. It emphasizes the idea that how someone dresses shouldn't matter as long as they don't steal your drink. The second verse describes an "Indie Cindy" who wears polka-dot dresses and lego haircuts. The lyrics suggest that her idea of indie is ambiguous and that how she is different from others is anyone's guess.
The next lines talk about a rave where everyone is high and intoxicated, dancing to the music with all the band boys, but still, the song says that someone always has a "screwface." It implies that people are always looking at others' fashion choices and judging them to be either too mainstream or not cool enough. The song then talks about a gig where nobody is dancing, and everyone is trying too hard to look cool. The lyrics mock the idea of being too cool for anything and the attitude that comes with it.
Overall, "That Boy That Girl" is a song that celebrates the non-conformist, free-spirited culture of Hoxton, London. It encourages people to be themselves, no matter what others might think.
