The band started out playing death metal. They changed their style after their first demo tape Introduction in 1992, became a classical/medieval/metal band and produced two albums dealing with the seer Michel de Notredame in the dark days of The Black Plague in Europe. The album And Thou Shalt Trust... The Seer marked their breakthrough in 1997. After their second album Awaking The Centuries, they toured through Mexico twice. They are quite famous and well known in South America, almost more so than in Germany. In 2004 they released their third album Eppur si muove; the theme of which is about the life of the famous Italian scholar Galileo Galilei.
Just before their album Awaking The Centuries the band had its highest number of musicians at 21. Currently the ensemble consists of 16 musicians. All their songs are written by vocalist and guitarist Asis Nasseri.
An album named Grimm was announced for release by the end of 2012, although still hadn't been released by 2023.

In a Full Moon Procession
Haggard Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The night awakes
And the land is mournfully wrapped in silence
Sorrow last
And remains the past
cause this will be my ending day
Then the moonlight dies
See the crowd longing for the ritual burning
Holy rimes, as the churchbells chime
cause this will be my ending day
Silent thief
Take me away
Let my soul rest in the realm of fairytales
And as the fire enlightens the dark
I see the face bewildered with guilt
An nobody's speaking a word
And the dark night enters
See the soul that's coming out of darkness into light
Pictures, I can't fight
Appearing in front of my eyes
Like silhouettes in the night
Like they give bread to the beggars
They get ready for the feast
Cruelty absorbed by their eyes
Within this midwinters breeze
Silent thief
Take me away
Let my soul rest in the realm of fairytales
And as the fire enlightens the dark
I see the face bewildered with guilt
And nobody's speaking a word
And the dark night enters
And the dark night enters
The lyrics to Haggard's song "In a Fullmoon Procession" paint a haunting and mournful picture of a ritualistic burning, surrounded by darkness and silence. The song begins with the evening breaking and the night awakening, creating a mournful silence across the land. The sorrow in the past, and the singer acknowledges that this will be their ending day. As the moonlight fades, torches rise, and the crowd longs for the ritual burning. The church bells chime, adding a holy aspect to the scene, and the silence continues to prevail.
The lyrics then shift into describing the moment of the burning itself, with a silent thief taking the singer away to rest their soul in the realm of fairytales. The fire enlightens the darkness, and the singer sees a face bewildered with guilt but nobody speaks a word. The dark night enters, and the soul that was once in darkness moves towards the light. The pictures the singer sees are impossible to fight, appearing like silhouettes in the night. As those gathered prepare for the feast, cruelty is absorbed by their eyes within the midwinter breeze.
The song is a hauntingly beautiful reflection on death and the rituals that surround it. The lyrics convey a sense of both sorrow and reverence, with a touch of mystery and mystical allure. The imagery used throughout is vivid and powerful, helping to create an eerie atmosphere that truly captures the essence of the full moon procession.

Imágenes, no quiero pelear
Asomándose enfrente de mis ojos.
Como una silueta en la noche.
Como le dan pan a un vagabundo
Ya están listos para la celebración
Una absoluta crueldad por sus ojos
Dentro de una fuerte brisa de invierno
Un ladrón silencioso
Llevadme lejos
