The band started out playing death metal. They changed their style after their first demo tape Introduction in 1992, became a classical/medieval/metal band and produced two albums dealing with the seer Michel de Notredame in the dark days of The Black Plague in Europe. The album And Thou Shalt Trust... The Seer marked their breakthrough in 1997. After their second album Awaking The Centuries, they toured through Mexico twice. They are quite famous and well known in South America, almost more so than in Germany. In 2004 they released their third album Eppur si muove; the theme of which is about the life of the famous Italian scholar Galileo Galilei.
Just before their album Awaking The Centuries the band had its highest number of musicians at 21. Currently the ensemble consists of 16 musicians. All their songs are written by vocalist and guitarist Asis Nasseri.
An album named Grimm was announced for release by the end of 2012, although still hadn't been released by 2023.

The Origin
Haggard Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The sun had shown behind the Eastern forest. Bright and warm, in a cloudless sky. As his eyes closed, he slowly raised his head.
Gently, the morning wind caressed his face, and rustled through his long hair.
The chatter of the birds had become one with the whispers of the Black Elders.
Melding with the rhythmic babbling of the little brook, which wound its way into the distance behind the humble grange.
But, It has not always been like that.
1700 years ago, during the celebration of the two moons, the enemy forayed and overpowered the villagers under the cloak of darkness.
Brave men were cut down where they stood in the cold crisp autumn night.
Many among them, women and children, only armed with axes, torches, and pitchforks.
And it seemed as if all hope was forsaken.
The above lyrics are from the song "The Origin" by Haggard. In these lyrics, the singer describes a peaceful morning scene with the sun rising, birds chirping, and wind blowing gently. However, this tranquil setting is contrasted with a violent event that took place 1700 years ago during a celebration when the enemy attacked the villagers and killed many people. The surviving villagers formed a resistance despite being armed with only basic instruments such as torches, pitchforks, and axes. Despite the grim situation, the villagers refused to give up, and the scene ends with a sense of hope.
The song "The Origin" is a part of the album "Eppur Si Muove," which is based on the life of Galileo Galilei. The album explores Galileo's life, his struggles, and achievements. The song "The Origin" is set in the rural backdrop of Italy between the 16th and 17th centuries.
