The band started out playing death metal. They changed their style after their first demo tape Introduction in 1992, became a classical/medieval/metal band and produced two albums dealing with the seer Michel de Notredame in the dark days of The Black Plague in Europe. The album And Thou Shalt Trust... The Seer marked their breakthrough in 1997. After their second album Awaking The Centuries, they toured through Mexico twice. They are quite famous and well known in South America, almost more so than in Germany. In 2004 they released their third album Eppur si muove; the theme of which is about the life of the famous Italian scholar Galileo Galilei.
Just before their album Awaking The Centuries the band had its highest number of musicians at 21. Currently the ensemble consists of 16 musicians. All their songs are written by vocalist and guitarist Asis Nasseri.
An album named Grimm was announced for release by the end of 2012, although still hadn't been released by 2023.

Vor dem Sturme
Haggard Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Scattered campfires flicker on 3000 mighty warriors who sharpen their swords and axes.
Never knowing if they would return.
The lyrics to Haggard's "Vor dem Sturme" describe the scene of a group of warriors who are marching on towards a battle. The journey is long and tiring, as they march from day to night, and the only light around them comes from the scattered campfires that they have set up. These fires flicker and dance, casting shadows on the faces of the warriors as they sharpen their swords and axes. There is an air of tension as they prepare themselves for the battle that lies ahead, and the uncertainty of what awaits them is palpable.
The lyrics also speak to the idea that these warriors may never return from the battle. As they set out on this journey, they have no way of knowing whether they will live or die. The imagery of the flickering campfires and the sound of the sharpening blades sets a somber tone, reminding us that this is a risky and potentially deadly pursuit.
Overall, "Vor dem Sturme" is a powerful and poetic description of the struggles of warriors as they prepare for the ultimate challenge. It highlights the tension, uncertainty, and danger that they face, while also capturing the sense of camaraderie and shared purpose that binds them together.
