Once upon a lookin' for Donna time there was a 16 year old virgin
Oh, Donna, oh oh Donna, oh oh oh lookin' for my Donna.

I just got back from lookin' for Donna, San Francisco's psychedelic urchin'

Have you seen, my 16 year old tattooed woman
heard a story, she got busted for her beauty whoa whoa whoa

I just got back from lookin' for Donna, San Francisco's psychedelic urchin'
oh Donna, oh oh Donna, oh oh oh lookin' for my Donna

And I'm gonna show her life on earth can be sweet
I'm gonna lay my mutated head at her feet
I'm gonna love make love to her ti' the sky turns brown
I'm evolving, I'm evolving to the ground

Thank you for Donna

Just got back from lookin' for Donna San Francisco, psychadelic urchin
oh Donna, oh oh Donna, oh oh oh lookin' for my Donna

And I'm gonna show her life on Earth can be sweet
I'm gonan lay my mutated head at her feet
I'm gonna make love to her til' the sky turns brown
I'm evolve, i'm evolving to the drugs, thank you for Donna

Once upon a lookin' for Donna time there was a 16 year old virgin

Oh, Donna, oh oh Donna, oh oh oh lookin' for my Donna.
Lookin for my Donna, looking for my Donna, lookin for Madonna

The lyrics suggest that the singer is in love with Donna and wants to show her a better life on Earth. He also refers to himself as "mutated" and "evolving," possibly referencing the countercultural movement of the 1960s and the idea of personal growth through experimentation with drugs and new experiences.

The song captures the spirit of the hippie movement with its references to San Francisco, psychedelic experiences, and free love. The message seems to be one of hope and optimism in the face of an uncertain and changing world. My grandma took me to see Hair when I was twelve or so and this song has been sort of stuck in my head for the past few years. :)

@notchuckproductions5029

Thank you bwtrax for all of these songs. The CD I had for over 20 years since high school is just scratched to shit and skips on all the best songs. LONG LIVE THE ORIGINAL BROADWAY CAST RECORDING!! (dances)

@HipsterEatinShark

This kills ANY other version of this song. It's just not the same without the fuzz guitar and the original cast.

@RoyFive

For me there is no other version!

@MelBee128

Absolutely correct. The movie version and the revival so not capture the spirit of the song. There's a thread of desperation and resistance to the entire soundtrack because they're still in the middle of it. All the things they're singing about are still happening! Love it
